I've gotten several tips about this little site lately, but I rememberd that I had posted about it earlier so I didn't post about it again. To my surprise there is a updated version of that site up now, so get on over and see how Chernobyl is.

IGN did an article on a number of MIA games, including Fallout 3, Baldur's Gate 3, Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Duke Nukem forever, Sam & Max: Freeland police and others. Nothing new, really, but it's nice to be remembered, ey? Here's their take on the Fallout3/BG 3 story:

It's very likely that both sequels were under active development. The most relevant thing here, however, is that Black Isle Studios, as a development entity, is dead. Unless Interplay comes forward with information to the contrary, our best understanding is that Black Isle is being kept as a publishing marque for Interplay's RPG-flavored titles. Given this, even without the licensing tangles, Baldur's Gate 3 and Fallout 3 are dead as they stand.

Our assumption is that Interplay decided that the console-based Dark Alliance games were a better investment than another Baldur's Gate RPG on the PC, which unfortunately left the smaller but hard-core PC RPG audience in the lurch. There are rumors that Interplay is fighting to get the Baldur's Gate PC license back from Atari, but no reason at this point to raise hopes.

It's possible that another developer could take up the reigns on either of these projects, presumably on behalf of Atari, but without lead developer J.E. Sawyer, who is no longer with Black Isle or Interplay, it seems doubtful.

Now they announce a "battle royale" (wow, original title), between all those games that didn't make it and didn't win an extra life. Fallout 2 is amongst them, and lagging way behind.

Battlefield1942files.com have conducted an interview with Ted Anderson, aka Postman, who works on the Dead Cities mod (a Battlefield 1942 mod). Here are some interesting quotes/answers:

god7399: has the team decided on a possible future with Battlefield: Vietnam??

PunkPosteh: Yes. We've decided that we'll be putting out a version for BF42, and then a sort of Beta 1.5 for Battlefield: Vietnam? with some art upgrades as well as some extra vehicles and such.

god7399: how close to a public release are you guys?

PunkPosteh: Fairly close, we're wrapping up player weapons and putting the very last finishing tweaks on vehicles. Our flagship map is nearing completion, and we have a metric ton of model props for future mappers to use (hint hint) heh. Also we're working on our HUD and some voice work as well! The only real time range we can give on release is "soon."
Sounds good, I'm actually looking forward to trying this out.

Another Fbos review has appeared on the net and this time it's Gaming Illustrated that have reviewed the game, they gave it an overall score of 72% which still amazes me when you actually look at the review. Here's the final verdict:

Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel is a decent rental for Fallout fans who donít already hate it and those intrigued by the setting. It can provide some fun, especially its two-player cooperative mode, but it lacks the options and polish of the other action RPGs available.
So basicly it's a sellout, who would have guessed...

Troika Chronicles have posted an interview with good old Timmy (Tim Cain), where he talks about Troika's future and past and also this little snibblet:

Q: Your name became widely known with the release of Fallout and to this day many fans believe that you are the only one who can bring us another "true" Fallout game. Now that the Black Isle Studios at Interplay are closed and Van Buren/Fallout 3 was canned in favor of an action-RPG title for the PS2 and XBOX, many Fallout fans fear that there won't be any "true" Fallout games in the future. Would you like to buy the Fallout license from Interplay to do another Fallout?

Tim: I would like to buy it, but Interplay is not offering it for sale right now, and I doubt I could afford the license even if they did offer it. As an alternative, I would be up for developing Fallout 3 with Interplay.
Auukey, hope that Troika gets more to say than IPLY if they can get this going..

Despite the fact that I still really don't like Gamespy, it is my duty to point out that Fallout 2 is up and running for an extra life in the final brackets round in the Gamespy Ultimate Gaming Grudge. Fallout 2 is currently way behind Warcraft III (not to mention Chrono Trigger and Counterstrike) for an extra life.

The upcoming UT 2003/2004 mod called Shattered Oasis has lost another member to the gaming industry, so they're in need of atleast one new mapper, here's what it says:

We're looking for at least one more mapper to help us out and be apart of our close knit team. We have many static mesh and texture packages all ready to be used. Basically what we're looking for is a person or persons that can communicate well, eager to learn and improve themselves, and can give/take good constructive criticism to make not only the levels better but the mod as a whole.

So if this description fits you don't wait too long email me today ( toothless@shatteredoasis.com ), and we'll get started asap.

Yup the good old Beneath A Steel Sky game is getting a sequel, Revolution Software just announced that they're making Beneath a steel sky 2. Here's some info:

Revolution, best known for its highly respected and successful Broken Sword series, registered the url www.steel-sky2.com on March 4, 2004 (see here for details) and Revolution MD Charles Cecil today confirmed with us that pre-production on the title had indeed begun.

"Beneath a Steel Sky is a game that is still widely respected and we are regularly asked when we will write the sequel," Cecil told us. "Beneath A Steel Sky 2 is a project Revolution has been considering for a while, and has stated to move forward on, but we are unable to comment beyond this."
Well I'm not getting my hopes up just yet, too many old games sequels have been scrubbed lately.

There is a new Post Apocalyptic MMOG (multiplayer online game) in progress and it's called Rekonstruction, here are some info:

Four hundred years from now, Earth is a shadow of her former self. On August 24th, 2202, a near calamitous strike from a planetary fragment sent 12 billion souls into backup and made extinct hundreds of thousands of animal and plant species.

The shock of the fragment strike and the 200 years of heavy weather, combined with vast nuclear and biological contamination nearly spelled the end of the planet and the human race.
This game is planned for an early 2005 release, so it's a year away..

Extreme Gamer is the latest to review Fbos and they fall into the trap like all the rest, just read the "lowdown":

It might not be Fallout3, but if you're a Fallout fan then you will enjoy this title enough to look past the shallow action and checkpoint gameplay. Fallout: BHOS will appeal to any who likes violent hack em' up games, and I'm sure they will enjoy the harsh language, beer and hookers too. After all it's only a game, good shootin'.
Yeah, right....

Evidently Inertplay is on a suing spree, Forbes.com is reporting that Interplay has set out to sue BattleBorne Entertainment over a deal they struck earlier. Battleborne left the deal around Sept. 29 2003 and now Herve wants the cash they payed earlier..

It's also funny to report that Herve has gotten Interplay as high as 0.16/17 on the NASDAQ over the last year, right now it's at 0.10...Makes you wonder about the man on top doesn't it..

The guys working on the Shattered Oasis mod/game have posted part 1 of their developers journal and here's a quote:

If you have played the previous release - 1.08 - then you know it was buggy buggy buggy, yet still was fun at times. The same will be going for 2.0 initially. It will be released when its ready and we feel its stable enough. I firmly believe I could release it today and it would withstand alot of issues, yet we're not.
So we can expect the 2.0 version soon, there's more where that came from but mostly just a round up of Byte's feelings toward the project and the crew.

Calculon00 have posted an update on the Fallout Tycoon - Rebirth project that he's working on:

Most of the game is still in the design phase, The city select and "ok box" text system is up and running. The actual game where you see the tiles had not been worked on. I am concerned that because of the limitations of flash that I will have to put a big-ass peice of code into EVERY single tile, which may run too slow.

If this happens, then I will have to scrap the flash version and go right for the C++.

Right now, I'm working on the pictures that each resource will have, to make it easier to differentiate between them. After that, I will work on the design docs, finishing up what city will want/export whar resources, and then I'll work on some more tile graphics. (The ruin roads, specifically)

After that, I'll try to get a working version of the actuall game up, which will be missing a lot of graphics, but will give people the feel of the gameplay. A pre-alpha.
Sounds good, I also spotted this at our hosted site VDHP.

We will let you know about the new features and the new release date shortly.

Gamefaq probably decided that they needed to have more visitors, so they've also started a UBER GAME OF ALL AGES contest or how they call it: Spring 2004: "Best. Game. Ever.". Here are some info:

The users of GameFAQs have nominated 64 of the best games of all time, and it's time to let them battle it out. Starting April 1st, a 64-game winner-take-all tournament will begin, using the Poll of the Day, and at the end of it all, we will have our answer. Tigerclaw, which is a korean PC gamer webzine, have conducted an interview with none other than mr Brian Fargo himself, here's a quote:

Tiger's Claw: How did Interplay get into the financial trouble? We heard that Interplay stock holders were about to sue you for that.

Brian: Interplay was a very successful PC publisher but the console market took over pretty quickly. Interplay did not make the transition fast enough and was caught in a declining PC market. I started kicking off console games like the Matrix, Hunter and Dark Alliance but it was a bit late. Fortunately the stock holders understood and did not sue anyone.
So, he's to blame for all this console shit...damn!...Brian also talks a little about an interest in hiring some of the Black Isle talent (if they need people in the future)

Snake Diablo of the Fot: Rules of Engagement mod is still looking for some mappers, here's what the man said:

For several weeks I have been posting about FOT: Rules Of Engagement, a new modification for Fallout Tactics which will feature a whole new storyline, characters, items, weapons and a whole new campaign with new maps and missions. Duo to the amount of work with the crew I have we're running slow on the overall progress. Currently we're at +/-40% and the first stage of the campaign is almost ready, just a few finishing touches and we're ready to get down to the second stage.

With the current crew we're working as fast as we can. I am posting this at No Mutants Allowed to ask for mappers to come forward and help us to complete several mission maps. We're working on maybe the biggest Fallout Tactics modification so far and I can only hope we'll get it done with the best material available. I'm asking for mappers and editors who can help us... If you are dedicated and willing to join our crew then please feel free to contact me at: Snakediablo@hotmail.com
So you got what it takes? Well then email Snake Diablo and help out..

Krawall did an interview about the Fall with Carsten Strehse and Jeff Husges. Sadly, it's in German. Still, here's a bit I tried to translate (bit of a chance of this translation being way off):

Krawall: Jeff, can you use your experiences from "Fallout 3" on [working at] "The Fall"?
Jeff Husges: "Fallout 3" being a similar project has helped me start working on "the Fall". The games are similar in several ways, so there are many aspects [of the Fall] with which I'm familiar

"New points" in the interview:
- It may very well be that SSE hires further ex-BIS employees
- SSE will continue to do post-apocalyptic games
