This is a quest guide for optional quests listed in your PipBoy.
Locations mentioned can be found in our maps section.

Locate Vault-Tec Headquarters
Recover the Soil Stradivarius from Vault 92 Sheet music can be found in the restroom in the Living Quarters
Return to Agatha
Find a buyer for the Soil Stradivarius You can sell it to Abraham Washington in Rivet City and Ahzrukhal in Underworld, for 200 caps or 300 caps with a speech check.

After the quest is over, you can give Agatha the sheet music from Vault 92 in return for positive karma or the Blackhawk Scoped .44 Magnum.
Ask the people of Big Town about their captured friends Pappy has the clearest info.
Rescue the Big Town captives from the Super Mutants Head up to Germantown. Red is one of the holding cells on the ground floor.
- Open the cell door with the key found on one of the Super Mutants
- Open the cell door using the terminal. Get the password from a desk on the first floor
- ScienceBoy: hack the terminal
- StealthBoy: pick the lock of the cell door
Escort Red safely back to Big Town
Rescue Shorty Shorty is in the basement. Rescuing him is optional and does not result in a better quest reward
Escort Shorty safely back to Big Town You can quick travel with them in tow. Bringing back Red, Shorty or returning with news that everyone is dead will close the quest, but there are some post-quest options (listed below).
Rewards:
- 200 caps from Pappy if you don't save anyone
- 300 caps from Red and positive karma if you save Red
- 500 caps from Red and negative karma if you save Red and extort money from her
- 300 XP
Mutant attack The super mutants are coming for an attack. It takes about an hour from the end of the quest before the Super Mutant attack begins.
- Leave Big Town to its fate. Everyone will be dead when you return.
- CombatBoy: take the super mutants out yourself
- CombatBoy: train the residents in Small Guns
- ScienceBoy: repair the robots in the junkyard
- StealthBoy: teach the residents how to sneak
- StealthBoy: help the residents make a minefield around the town
Deliver Lucy's Message This part is purely optional and you might run into this quest without talking to Lucy, but since she's in Megaton you'll likely bump into her first.
Check the West Residence They're dead. Check the bodies to find they've been mauled. High medicine will give more detailed analysis.
- 0-29: they are, indeed, dead
- 30-49: they have bite marks on their neck that go to the bone
- 50-69: there seems to be too little blood
- 70-89: the bite marks look like they're from humans with sharpened teeth
- 90++: the blackish powdery residue on the bodies is not unlike the found on old trainyards (what this has to do with Medicine skill is beyond me)
Check the Schenzy Residence
Check the Ewers Residence
Report to Evan King Ask him if he has any clues where the Family might be and he'll put three locations on your PipBoy.
Locate the Family They're at Meresti Trainyard, due east of Northwest Seneca Station. Go there either underground via Northwest Seneca Station or overland. Either way, once you enter Meresti Trainyard, follow the flaming barrels to come to Robert, the gate-keeper.
- Show him Lucy's letter and he'll let you past
- Bribe him with 100 caps
- If you have the Cannibal perk, he will let you past
- SpeechBoy: convince him to let you in
- CombatBoy: shoot him. This narrows down your options with the rest of the family, you'll have to shoot them too
- StealthBoy: sneak past him. As with the CombatBoy option, this turns the Family hostile
Locate Ian West Several of the dwellers here can be talked into giving you Ian West's location and the password to reach him with the following requirements.
- Brianna: Lady Killer perk
- Justin: Impartial Mediation perk or Speech check
- Karl: Black Widow perk or high Strength
- Holly: Scoundrel perk or high Charisma
- Vance: speech check, Cannibal perk (and having used it at least once) or he requires you research the Family; speak with his followers for that, or access any computer terminal in the area to read up on their beliefs
- Bullets: put them in everyone's heads
After this, head into Ian West's cell to talk with him
- Let him stay with the family
- Show him Lucy West's letter which will convince him to head back to Arefu
- SpeechBoy: convince him to go back to Arefu
Speak to Vance about Ian's decision Note you can no longer attack the Family to resolve this quest from the moment this step is triggered, attacking the Family now fails the quest. This includes the gate guard Robert.
Speaking to Vance you can also resolve the problems with Arefu. The deal is for him to take blood packs from Arefu in trade for either leaving the town alone or protecting it.
- If you've researched the Family's Laws (on any computer terminal) you can convince Vance without any skill checks
- With high Intelligence point out the alternative source (blood packs)
- SpeechBoy: work on his sense of morality
- ScienceBoy: with high medicine skill, point to blood packs
Return to Evan King The same as above is true here: once this step is triggered, attacking any Family member fails the quest.
Rewards:
- Schematic: Shishkebab from Vance
- Hemophage Perk from Vance (if you return to him after the quest is closed)
- 300 XP
- +300 karma (unless you slaughter the Family)
This quest is fairly freeform. The order in which it is penned up here assumes you bumped into the Temple of the Union first. You can also meet the slavers at Lincoln Memorial first and be sent out to find the Temple of the Union. In either case, you can help the ex-slaves or slavers as you choose.
Make sure the Lincoln Memorial is free of Super Mutants
Talk to Caleb Smith
Get a picture of the Lincoln Memorial It's in the Museum of History, and can be handed over the either Caleb or Leroy depending on who you're helping.
Find Hannibal Hamlin and the Temple of the Union

- 300 XP
Take Sierra's Nuka-Cola Tour
Speak to Sierra Petrovita
Recover 30 bottles of Nuka-Cola Quantum and bring them to Sierra Petrovita This can be a bit of a pain since Nuka-Cola Quantum is quite rare. A good way to approach this is to pick up and save all the Quantum you chance upon (you'll often find Quantum in Nuka-Cola dispensers or in Nuka-Cola crates).
Find the ruins of the Nuka-Cola Bottling Factory
Recover the Nuka-Cola Quantum shipping manifests
- CombatBoy: dungeon crawl. In this crawl you'll meet Milo, the Mister Handy foreman. Convince him you own the place with speech or show him the Employee ID you can find prior to meeting him.

Disarm Megaton's bomb
Disarm Megaton's bomb...or rig it to explode There are some unusual options during or after talking to Mister Burke.
- With the Black Widow perk, you can seduce Mister Burke, after which you can get him to leave (and he'll send you love letters) or up his fee by 500 caps (also doable with a speech check)
- After talking to Burke, you can turn him in to Lucas Simms. Simms will get shot by Burke, though if you're quick enough you can gun down Burke without any karma penalty or the town turning hostile (you can shoot him at any point without the town becoming hostile).
- After talking to Burke, you can talk to him again and tell him you're sticking with Simms to turn him hostile
- After talking to Burke, you can talk to Simms and tell him you're taking Burke up on his offer to turn the entire town hostile
Regardless, you can arm or disarm the bomb with an explosives skill of 25. You need Burke's Fusion Pulse Charge to arm the bomb, so if you gave it to Simms you can forget it.
Ask Leo Stahl at the Brass Lantern about buying Mentats to raise Explosives skill This is most easily triggered by mentioning to Burke you don't have the skill for the job, but the info on Leo Stahl's habit can also be gained from Moriarty's computer or Doc Church.
- SpeechBoy: convince Leo Stahl to admit his drug habit. Either blackmail him to sell you drugs or convince him to give up the habit and give you the key to his stash
- StealthBoy: steal the key from Leo
Loot Leo Stahl's stash at the water treatment plant for Mentats to raise Explsovies skill
Meet Leo Stahl at the water treatment plant for Mentats to raise Explsovies skill

This quest is centered in Rivet City but can be triggered anywhere if you find one of the many copies of the holotape from the android. This write-up starts from talking to Dr Zimmer in Rivet City.
Search for clues about zimmer's missing android
Discover what Doctor Preston at Rivet City might know about the android The quest relies on you finding 4 clues about the android. To do so, speak to 4 of the following persons (speech skill helps, as does medicine for doctors and science for scientists) or find the holotapes near them. These people are tied to the android through medicinal or scientific interest, because they are part of the railroad or they are slavers on the hunt. It does not matter what order you speak to whom in, so simply go by whatever is most convenient - obvious candidates are Doctor Preston and Father clifford in Rivet City and Doc Church, Moira Brown and Manya in Megaton.

- Doctor Barrows (Medicine), Underworld, Nurse Graves' desk
