As much as I'd love to fly an Orion destroyer, can we just get an actual sequel instead? _________________

Yeah, it's something that ego-stroking primadonna would consider.
"Let me assure you of one thing that you can go to sleep with tonite. I have FULL intentions of getting this license. If I DO get it, you and your teenny leetle friends on your Ferrous Oxide project, are effectively, shutdown because I don't piss around when it comes to IP properties. You would do well to ask around. I've sued publishers for less and I have attorneys around the world, literally on speed dial."
- Derek Smart, AVault Forums (locked thread)
Amusing, he even bullies around fan projects. So that explains the very little modding scene around his games, but who else should develop but that attention whore?

The answer is yes, because you are obviously the wrong hands. A game is much more than its name and general premise. At least Fallout fans won't have to deal with that shithead...unless they also happen to be Freespace fans. _________________

TES was made an orphan once the Father left, and it's been left with the really creepy uncles that are dressing it up in flashy clothing and hooking it out onto X-Box Avenue.
Guess where Fallout stands? |

Well, I used to be a Freespace fan.
One of the Electronics Boutique people no less than tricked me into buying "Universal Combat". Was I pissed when I loaded it up and found out that it was no less than a sequel to BattleCruiser.
My introduction to Battlecruiser was when I found "Battlecruiser 3000AD" for $3 in a bin at Toys 'R Us. For $3, I figured I couldn't go wrong. Boy, was I mistaken. The interfaces for those games are overly complex and unlike anything known to man. I think you would need to take a semester-long course to learn it. Which is a shame, because from all indications there might be a slightly entertaining game underneath them.
Now, we better stop talking badly of his games before he sues us, the phpBB (who powers these forums), and NMA for libel. _________________ I started off with nothing and still have most of it left.

I thought the BC series he put together was very ambitios but way too steep a learning curve. I think you need to pass some test for MENSA to play the thing.
I would have liked to have seen more open options in freelancer though or freespace. Freelancer was a pretty good space RPG but it kind of led you by the nose through the story. Freepsace was week on the RPG side but a pretty good space fighting sim.
I guess I just want a new Privateer to come out then I'll be happy. Freelancer tried, and almost suceeded but it still wasn't as open as privateer.
Just my thoughts

That effectively makes Mr. Derek Smart, "Ph.D.", incapable of playing his own game. _________________

tired007 try this link http://www.lancersreactor.com/t/news/newsitem.asp?id=2655&category=Freelancer
Btw I did play the game(B-Cruiser 3000 and still going) but it was half done: no plot, poor combat system and nothing to do.
And having played FS2 I think it deserves some ending that would tie loose ends. Poor WCP trilogy was scraped because EA thought space sim market had run dry. |
