|
|
This was posted on the official Bethesda forums by Lindsay Muller, a representative of Bethesda's marketing department in response to a topic on Linux/Mac ports of Fallout 3:It could happen if there is a large enough demand and if we are approached by a Mac games publisher such as Macsoft or Aspyr. Bethesda Softworks would not port it. So if you want to see Fallout 3 or any of our other games ported to Mac, contact either or both Mac publisher and request it. Link: Thread at Bethesda forum.

I thought this was DX based game and porting it to OpenGL can be costly .. then again when you have all the assets sans code it could be an option ... time for fallout3 on the wii _________________ A teen skater takes a crackpot's DeLorean back to 1955, where he fends off his lustful future mom (1985) ***1/2 |

Wait... Gamebryo isn't developed by Bethesda?
I didn't even check before, I just took it as obvious...
Damn.. is there anything these people do for themselves?
The engine is bought, they hire other companies to do their graphics...
One would think in such case they'd have plenty of time to make a good RPG.
Seems not. _________________ Our goal at Black Isle was to take the Planescape license and make a role-playing game that was both fun and different from anything else on the market. We strove to avoid the mainstays of such games, dwarves, elves, evil wizards, and kidnapped princesses, replacing them with talking items, unusual allies, and enemies that you had never before seen.
(...)
We wanted a powerful story, and we didn't want to be afraid of it being too deep for mass market; we just wanted to make it good.
We sought to take the role-playing genre in a different direction from most RPGs on the market; building a truly interactive environment for the gamer, where what you believed actually had an impact on the game.

I take it you have zero familiarity with game development? There are virtually no companies that keep everything in-house, and many of the few that do, can only afford to do so by licensing out their engines and other related bits to the majority of companies that don't do everything in-house.
Try finishing the credits on a game some time, count the number of people and companies outside the develper that are there, and how many various bits and pieces of licensed technology have their logos plastered at the end. |

Indeed, that doesn't mean anything at all. Typically another excuse for bashing Bethesda for nothing .
Game developers use existing graphical engines, sound engines, physics engines, libraries, ... It's just the way games are made nowadays, since they are getting so complex it becomes impossible to build them yourself completely.
Anyway, on topic. A mac port would surely be nice (I have a PC and a Macbook Pro), but since you can now install Windows to run natively on an intel mac I don't think it would be really necessary. _________________ Always look on the bright side of life . |

Huge.
This is one of many ways to fame and glory. I would have taken the chance if I knew the how-to's. _________________
