While I know the game is not of direct interest to all our readers, I can never pass up on a good community effort. To copy from Warcry:
The recent events have triggered outrage and many unanswered questions on the official AA boards. There is no official news whether NetDevil will intervene and buy the IP back off NC Soft's hand, or if there is any willing buyer at all.

BIOMEK.ORG, Auto Assault's popular database website, is now converted into a Refugee Bunker for all AA players with a dedicated Refugee Forum.

The reconfigured site also started an online campaign to save Auto Assault, with 2 separate online petitions for both involved companies:
Link: petition to NCSoft.
Link: petition to NetDevil.
Link: BIOMEK website.

Thanks Sigoya.

The sad thing is, online petitions don't actually work. Sad I just hope the faithful AA fans can possibly find a way to create an emulator or something so that they can at least still play the game, even if it's not hosted by NCSoft.

The only sensible thing that the developping company would do, it's giving the fans the right to set private servers.
But again, they don't care much and in this world where Intelectual Property is berserking, there is no chance in hell they will do that.

Thank you Brother None!

Any exposure, as little as we get, will help the cause.

Our petitions are aimed at NC Soft in particular to encourage it releasing the IP rights back to NetDevil, where we have a chance of revival.

Thank you again, you are a great community! Applause

Man a game goes through something like this and the news only gets 3 comments? I think we need another round of Fallout 3 promotional item bashing that goes 90+ comments on how they didn't copy the coca cola bottle or how they used a fallout 3 picture on the fallout 3 lunch box. Thats where the real debate is.

We're a Fallout site, Draconis, there are not a lot of MMO fans here, and probably even less auto-MMO fans.

If it was an RPG, perhaps, if it were a Troika-esque, sure, but this? Sorry, just not our area.

Is this game really worth fussing over? Seemed pretty dull to me, and the promising crafting I'd read about was way too inviting.

Surely someone could just throw up a private server right?

Wouldn't such a server cost thousands of dollars to run per month?

Probably on the scale of the current servers, but hell, I've seen my mate running a WoW private server with no trouble, and from my experiences of auto assault... No one plays it. Therefore, I'm sure a the small community that does indeed enjoy the community could get by on that sort of set up.

This is probably the most realistic option for players. And with the company ending service, it's a lot less likely to cause any legal problems as well. The way most World of Warcraft communities survive (with a few hundred players) is via donations to keep it running. The only thing is it has to be clarified that these are indeed donations, and that the service isn't being charged for, as that is what will get you into some legal trouble.

NetDevil confirmed that they are not going to buy AA back, thus effectively killing the game.

Auto Assault was actually an MMORPG set with vehicle and character play. You see. that is the problem with AA: lack of advertising and misinformation.

The whole concept was based on an RPG experience with intricately designed missions and beautiful post-apocalyptic setting, landscapes and characters.

So now, we'll have to look into the private server solution.

Where do we start? I have no idea about these things? Any help would be appreciated...

Ohhh NCSoft products tend to be fairly easy to emulate. I've been involved a fair bit with private Lineage 2 servers since their first days in America. I'm no programmer but I do know that since the need is there...

Like Lineage, has Korea been playing AA for a couple years more than us Westerners? If so, it might be interesting to take a look over there to see what has developed.

Or, you could just send NCSoft peanuts and flowers until they cant take it anymore. (:

Edit: Did a bit of reading... If I were you, I'd hop on AA's boards and talk to a guy by the name of "daddycaddy". See what he says. He might be blowing smoke, but its worth a shot.

Trust me we've thought of that, the problem is they are were set on shutting AA 6 months ago and the original Developers are unable to buy the IP rights back from the publishers.

So basically screwed...

Well if you've got any coding-minded players in your community, it may be possible to reverse engineer the game code so you can create private servers to play on. As long as you haven't stolen the code and aren't charging for the service, I think the lawyers will leave you alone since the company will no longer be offering it so you're not exactly stealing customers.

It is nice to see the Auto Assualt community rallround their game Smile
However, I fear that the battle is already lost as NC Soft probably already decided half a year ago or so that we're going to close the auto assault MMORPG down at the end of Augsut 2007, probably since they, NC Soft, didn't make enough money from it. Sad Sad this is...

As for the developer Red Devil buying the IP franchise back, it ain't going to happen either, since NC Soft probably is charging way too much money for the IP franchise, way to much for Red Devil to shell out for the IP rights to Auto Assault, anyway.

When you develop a game such as Auto Assault, you'll need to understand that you're developinf for a very specfic fanbase, which, basically, is going to be a niche fanbase and that you can't expect to get WOW-numbers in online-subscriptions to the game.

I have peaked now and again from time to time on the Auto Assault forums, and from what I've learned and understood, there seems to be something wrong Confused: with the game, both in terms of gameplay and the way upgrades to the cars are handled Confused:

Hopefully, Red Devil will do something positive with the Auto Assault stuff, they do own so the Auto Assualt fans again
can get to smash cars in post apoc (mmo) rpg game...
