The low resolution on the Fallout games has long been a bother and an oft-requested thing for our modders to look at. We've long since had a highly bugged Fallout 2 resolution patcher, but now Mash comes in swinging with a relatively bugfree (not fully tested yet) patch to increase Fallout 2's resolution. From the readme.
As the title suggests this program modifies "fallout2.exe" in memory for the purposes of increasing the visual resolution. It also allows for movement of the taskbar and most, if not all menus and panels by way of variables listed in the included "f2_res.ini" file.

This Mod was made for Version 1.02d of the "fallout2.exe".
It was compiled with "Visual C++ 6.0 -sp6" and should work on most versions of Windows.
Some screenshots thanks to killap.

It looks good. This will probably help a lot in getting around some of the more cluttered towns/levels such as New Reno. Here's to hoping that this eventually ends up in Killap's patch or the Megamod.

Pardon my dumb, but how do I use it?
There's just a file called fallout2 with no extension that I can see and no readme.

Thanks.

I just downloaded the stuff and it has an installer and a readme file inside the "Fallout2 Resolution Patch v1.0" archive. I thought the redame wes pretty explicit. You might want to redownload from here:

Looking good! I find it a bit funny that the "Level" sign ends up at the top, but I can live with that if I can play FO2 in high resolution Very Happy

Read the readme. I believe one can change the position of that.

Great news after so long time, good job Mash. Doing such modification for first Fallout and Mapper would be nice.

Great stuff!

I'll try it some day...

Does this works with Killap unofficial Patch?
I imagine it doesn't... but if it does, please say something...

Nice try, but also unapplicable on some oversized maps (like the NCR centre).

...just wanted to point out this. Don't mind me

just tried this out for a couple minutes. (running killaps latest patch). anyways, i started a new game and made it through the temple of trials with no problem, then i tried to load an old game i had saved at the sierra army depot, and it crashed. i was running it at my native desktop resolution which is 1600x1200. going to play with this some more for sure, looks very promising.

Just went to NCR and was able to walk around the three main maps.
Did the map not load ?
What resolution were you playing at ?

I also intend to mod fallout1, once fallout2 is proved playable. Smile

No, he doesn't mean crashs or something like this. The problem is, that there are many maps, that aren't build for a higher resolution then 640x480px. These maps will look shitty, because you can see the void outside of the map.

I'm playing with it. Using the latest version of megamod and a resolution of 1280x1024. It's running smooths and for now I have no problems.

Outdoor canyon encounters look silly but I really don't have any problems with that Smile

AWESOME. Just tried it and I'm happy. It runs with the unofficial expansion pack AND fixes the gamestopping glitches I was having with previous resolution mods. No black screens or house of mirror effects on certain maps (I'm looking at you Modoc Ghost Farm). What's even better is it automatically sets up to match the desktop. Brilliant stuff. Been waiting years for this.

Yeah, all we need is a Fallout 1 version.

This means that this Resolution Patch works fine if applied after Unofficial Killap Patch?
