Hurray!
Hey, we're the guys who sought composers for an alternative soundtrack earlier this year. So, after seven long months, we're finally finished with the project and the soundtrack is complete.

It is a music mod for Fallout 3 that replaces ambient and GNR music as well as few music effects in the game. Featuring music from 14 different artists, which of some are members of NMA. If you want your Fallout 3 to sound more hostile and post-apocalyptic, this is the mod to grab.

Download links:

http://files.filefront.com/Fo3+Alternative+Soundtrackexe/;13800629;/fileinfo.html

And a torrent:

Claymore - project administration
Crazy Man
Din (feat. Clones)
MDP
Nebular Spool
Overcoat
Public
Soem Aeld
Sunsquid
TiLT

What kind of music is it? More tribal-esque or "dark" electronica?

BTW I'll have to wait until I get home to post the link but I contacted Igor from the Red Elvises and got his permission to make an in game radio station together with another cool band called Dengue Fever.

Do a search on the Nexus and you cant miss it.

The idea is that that the electric guitar was invented by the communists as a propaganda tool, but its power was too great to harness, and those trained in it's use rebeled created songs of love and partying on the beach instead. It adds about 16 non english 50's inspired rock songs (in Russian and Khemer).

I'd like to whole-heartedly recommend this mod. The compositions are really excellent (though I haven't listened to GNR stuff yet). Some pieces are very reminiscent of the older Fallouts, and some stuff is a bit different but still endlessly more fitting than the vanilla music.

This will be a must for me whenever I play the game.

It is a bit of both. There's lots of dark ambient, tribal, and even some industrial.

a new radio station with the red elvises would be awesome. but i just use the mod that puts music from fallout 1/2 into 3, and that made the game much more enjoyable.

Some of the tracks are good, but I wouldn't use thw whole thing. Install it to a new folder and pick and choose which ones you want to go into Data/music/.

Fallout's music is generally experimental ambience, much of this goes for straight out dark techno which doesn't fit. Especially the battle themes.

On the other hand, the "Explore" (overworld) themes are for the most part fitting and great.

Thanks for the feedback all. This point I'd like to adress however. I figured at least the GNR and battletracks would divide opinions (no matter how I look it, there's nothing even nearly related to techno in the rest of the tracks, which are mostly pure ambient) to those who love it and those who don't. However, it was better to include battletracks and change the whole NRG than not to; as you said, one can easily replace the tracks one doesn't like.

My personal take is that the area themes should keep on playing even during battles. And if I could put the time into it (or someone paid me - there's always time when there's money involved Wink), I'd remake all of the battletracks more in the style that was heard in "We Are The War" but with a more laid-back ambience.

The point of the soundtrack was never to blatantly copy Mark Morgan's style, but to create something new that would fit into the Fallout world and to a fps.

Anyways, all feedback is appreciated, so keep it coming.

Any chance of a Flac release, so we can listen to it in lossless, when not playing the game?

Sounds very nice so far.

Everyone who downloaded the file from filefront should redownload from the czech mirror. The filefront version is broken and does not install the GNR music.

It is possible, but a time-taking process. We do have 320kbps version of most of the stuff though, so that'd be achieved more easily.

we'll settle for mp3's. Wink

i don't really feel like playing FO3 just to listen to this music and find out if it's good or not. Smile

I'm really glad people took the effort in creating this mod however I don't like the "replace" part. What I would enjoy more is an in game options which allows the player to replace the music as stated, add on to the original music file and restore to default.

Dagon: I just checked the czech mirror and it should be working. Still problems?

Von Drunky: We started the mod because we wanted to replace and not add to the original soundtrack. But you can do that manually by copying content of Fallout 3/data/Music_backup dir into your Fallout 3/data/music dir. You will have to rename the files in order not to overwrite them. But it's nothing recommended, it's like mixing cows and apples Smile

SuAside: Yes the download is an exe you just install the mod like you had the game and then you go to the installation dir to listen to the files.
