Post apocaliptic fantasy independent RPG "Age of Decadence" has finally materialized itself into a playable demo. It's meant to showcase the combat system above all, so don't let the eventual lack of non-combat situations let you down. I haven't played it myself, but early reports suggest instability. Still, here are the links:

Link: AoD_demo.exe @ File Front
AoD_demo.exe @ RapidShare
AoD_demo.exe @ Deposit Files

There's no announcement at their official site reportedly because they didn't find the time to update it, but you can head over to their forums and post on the Combat Demo Discussions section. Don't forget to read the survival guide.

If you want to know more about the game itself, here's the unofficial FAQ and here's the unofficial gallery.

Yeah, it likes to crash every now and then on my system, but beside this, it feels already pretty smooth. I am not sure yet about the interface and the text size... might be hard to read after a while. Also the controls for talking with npcs, moving around, the camera, etc. might need a bit more work.

Combat feels good. I tried spear and sword and it was nice to fight.

There seems to be an issue when initiating dialogue, that we can't replicate on our end. It's possible related to a last minute change we did to implement one click interaction.

People are reporting that standing at least 2 squares away from the arena master solves the problem and the demo doesn't crash anymore. Please try it (if you have this problem) and let us know if it worked, which would help to isolate and fix the problem.

About the text size on higher resolutions, we are changing that too.

Thanks, and again, we're deeply sorry for the issues you're having.

Indeed, I was standing very close to him, when it crashed and my whole computer gone crazy. Needed to make a hard reset, because nothing worked anymore.

I was just going so close to him, because I forgot how to open the dialogue window with NPCs. Laughing I tested it at the traders, etc. first but nothing happened, so I was walking and running around and clicked on the arena dude while I was very close to him.. then the game crashed. It would be very useful to get some kind of icon that tells you that you can talk to npc xy. Couldn't see such a thing when I played the demo. Will check it out again later.

I survived first three opponents thus far and I must say I like the way game looks like. Had no issues with crashes or something similar. The characters looks a bit chubby, but it didn't really bother me. What did bother me is the fact that there is no geometry LOD-ing (correct me if I'm wrong) and the frame-rate drops significantly when I enter a building, even on my C2D @3.6 with Radeon-4870-1GB and 4GB RAM.

Suma summarum, a pleasant surprise for the end of the year. Looking forward to the second demo, hope it won't take long.

EDIT: just to confirm, the game freezes when you stand near the arena master and try to initiate dialog with him. Happened to me just now, before I was usually standing 2-3 tiles away from him.

Fuckshit. Very Happy Finally managed it to get the 3 enemies in the arena... then wanted to save... and clicked on loading. :>

There is really a kind of popup needed, that asks you again, if you really want to load when there is still a running game in the background.

Beside this, it's running very smooth on my shitload old system. I am running it with default graphic settings and don't get much problems.

I really like it, and haven't had any bugs pop up so far.

You guys did a really good job and deserve more praise than the scorn I've seen elsewhere.

I have to say I'm almost addicted, but I'm sure that will stop once I hit a major blockage.
Got a Spear/Block going right now, each at 150. Just hit executioner status. Gonna stop now, because I don't wanna play whilst drunk and screw up my build even further.
I could use a free money cheat though. PRETTY PLZ

And implement button configuration in the options, because more customization is always good, and it also helps when you can't remember all the hotkeys. Also, my mouse-wheel key is seriously fuck up man.

Good suggestion, we'll implement it.

Thanks for the compliments Very Happy

You will have more money that you can use pretty soon Smile

About the options screen, we barely had time to touch it, so it will certainly be improved. BTW, you can rotate the camera with ctrl + mouse at the edge of the screen, not only with the middle mouse button.

Try what I said in my first post:

It's the way the camera "stops" when you hit some solid wall. But I got used to it after a while with rotating the view.

1. There aren't descriptions for everything in the character tab. I don't know what does it mean that I'm a Brawler/Gladiator, other stuff like reputation etc seems self-explanatory but they could use a little description too.
2. Savegames are pretty easily corruptible. Two busted so far.
3. If you try to run towards your enemy on the arena before the combat starts sometimes your character freezes (still running) and there's nothing you can do.
4. In the trade window it'd be helpful to see what items are you wearing, for comparison.
5. Also, after saving the game it should return to game automatically. More convenient.

Just curious, but why do you think it's more fantasy than PA?

To everyone who is affected by the dialogue crash, here is a hotfix for you:

Hey, guys, the download speed from Filefront, as well as from Deposit Files is very low (max. 30kb/s). Didn't try the Rapidshare link.
A guy from the Codex has posted a torrent for the demo at The Pirate Bay. There are not many seeds but download speed is quite good (100kb/s +).
I haven't finished downloading yet but I'm very anxious to see this gem running. Very Happy

This is Fallout news? Huh.

Anyway, the game is ok, but the camera is annoying.

AoD has been covered since a long time already, just like some other non-fallout things.

It's post-apocalyptic and inspired by Fallout.
