I was never scared. Surprised, sure, and shocked, usually because I'd be thinking about doing something and then all of a sudden there'd be LOUD NOISE and AHHH and all that. Bethesda tried really hard for atmosphere and in a few places they did a pretty good job, but then it's always wrecked by some stupid bug, like an NPC running into a wall or the physics engine going crazy. Creepiness is something I can appreciate if done right, and the first two Fallouts do an okay job at it with atmosphere, but Fallout 3 usually felt like it was trying too hard... start making obvious Lovecraft references and I'm going to be pulled out of the game, not drawn into it.

Fallout isn't exactly a series I associate with horror, though, so it doesn't matter too much. Desolation, yes, solitude, yes, but nothing like Resident Evil's "oh god I'm going to be eaten alive", or even really "crushing hopelessness" like what you get in System Shock 2.

Nothing, really.

I miss the abandoned bases and that creepy music from SAD/Broken Hills of previous fallout games.

The other abandon vaults that I found doesn't really scare me when I visit and explore them. But it is really scary thinking about what it must be like for those unlucky people that got stuck in them. Imagine being slowly driven insane and turn into a monster by white noise or drugs. Unable to escape or even do anything to protect yourself and the ones that you care about. The though scares me a lot.

Fawkes running at lightspeed around a corner to catch up with you can be unnerving.

Spidermines in O:A, didn't notice those little buggers and all of the sudden a barrage of explosions surround me.

But in the main game nothing really scared me except for the first deathclaw at lvl 3 outside super duper mart.
I got startled a lot but not scared.

Some of the vaults were nice but again, nothing really scared me.

Played too much Silent Hill and Resident Evil to get scared I guess.
What's to be afraid of when you have godmode and pause game when tapping LB?

Nothing really scared me, just when things shocked me. Like once when I was wandering along in the old olney sewers (Broken Steel DLC), and it was pitch black, then a massive deathclaw jumped from behind the wall, it made me shit myself as well as shout out loud "WHAT THE FUCK!" my friend who was downstairs ran up stairs and look worried as if something happened, then I just said, "Oh sorry a fucking deathclaw just tried to molest me", he shrugged and walked away.

The Cube expansion was the best for scares IMO, now if only it were cannon.

Disjointed gameworld and massive amounts of stupid Bethesda managed to cram in the game kept breaking the 4th wall for me, which resulted in poor immersion and thus little to no atmosphere.

No atmosphere, no creepiness.

The Dunwich Building.

Old Olney.

The last bit of the one vault where you find Fawkes - can't remember the name. However, that was canceled out by the sheer horribleness of the cave full of kids.

Fallout 3 is not survival horror.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Dunwich building, partly because I am a total Lovecraft fanboy.

That being said I will admit it did creep me out. After I had finished going through it and reached the end I had this very urgent feeling that I needed to get far away from the place and running through the dark hallways trying to find my way back out had a sense of panic to it. I honestly felt better once I was out of the building and I looked back and it was far behind me.

It was well done in that regard, usually I am not able to get that immersed in games these days.
