At least some of it survived in New Vegas.
I just reuploaded the technical demo to NMA downloads.
It's a pity the game was never finished when it was so close to completion.
Also a pity it was never leaked into the world the way it was after being canceled.
What Prone Squanderer said. If we had gotten to play Van Buren now, completed as intended, a lot of it would have felt a bit like an echo, with the Legion, the Canyons, and such. There were many other interesting locations and factions intended, though
At least we have Mutants Rising to look forward to
And I am indeed happy that some of it eventually did turn up in Fallout New Vegas but it doesn't beat what Van Buren could have been.
I really would have liked to have seen all those locations like Jericho, Burnham Springs, Tibbets, Ouroboros, Twin Mothers, the Nursery, Denver, Bloomfield Spaceport, BOMB001.
Sometimes FNV feels like the consolation price compared to VB which would have been the first price.
I am not sure if there would have been much to go through Risewild.
From what I understand from interviews the percentage of completion of Van Buren was more optimistic than the reality really was.
A lot still had to be implemented and work had not even started on locations and some parts yet.
Of course Van Buren would now no longer have the impact as it could have had because elements of it have already been used and the design documents having been put online for all of us to read.
But I don't think many of us have complained that the surprise is gone as we would have a Fallout 1/2 experience again to go through.
Isn't Van Buren being finished up and released by a group of fans? I've heard rumors.
I think you are mistaking a fan project to recreate Van Buren with the assets of Fallout 1 and 2 (and some new ones) with Black isle's Van Buren. That one never got finished.
