    Fallout 3 pirated, videos spread

Before I begin this newspost, let me make one thing clear: No Mutants Allowed is a gaming website on a gaming network, we do not condone piracy. I am making a high exception on normal policy by posting about this because in this one case the news-value wins out over normal policy.

This does not mean our normal piracy rules are suspended: do not expect to see any more news on this from NMA. If you post anything about having pirated Fallout 3 on our forums you will be banned, if you post any new videos from pirated copies you will be banned.

That said. VideoGamer.com reports someone of low morals values put Fallout 3 on torrent stream:
Fallout 3, Bethesda's eagerly-awaited post-apocalyptic RPG, has been leaked onto file-sharing sites less than 24 hours after going gold. Impatient gamers have rushed to download the ripped Xbox 360 version, with one site claiming that over 800 people are now sharing a complete set of files.

It doesn't stop there. One cocky gamer has even gone so far as to post a live streaming video of their first experiences with the game. Presumably they don't have a problem with advertising the fact that they're breaking the law.
You can view some dude playing Fallout 3 here, you can view quite a few Fallout 3 videos on Youtube - though I expect Youtube to remove said videos as infringing on Bethesda's rights.

PS: I do have to point out the irony of this being pirated on Xbox360, considering all the talk of PC having the big pirating problem.

Hah, looks like the guy stopped playing FO3 (he was pretty bad at it, was really slow with reading dialogue options, mostly tried to kill stuff and died about 10 times) and is now playing Saints Row 2.

I added some of the leaked stuff to The Vault.

    "Person of low morale?"

Saw the Youtube clip, and the game looks / plays like I expected.

Based on the fight during the birthday party, looks like RAI isn't any better than Oblivion.

I wonder if Bethesda might release the game a bit earlier now because of it.

Can I just interject one thing?

Looking at those videos: Holy shit the voice acting is atrocious. And the animations of characters in dialogue is barely better than in Oblivion.

    Ok, I don't pirate stuff so i don't know.

How unusual is it for a game to be pirated before it's in the shops?

    This seems pretty bad.

Unusual but it happens: review copies get pirated, staff spread copies to family they thought they could trust (there's some comments on Youtube about this being some Bethesda staffer's nephew). It's why GTA IV didn't even allow reviewers to take copies, instead having this odd system where they had to play it in a hotel under supervision. It's getting a bit insane.

Remember Arcanum? Review copies for that game went out and then afterwards it was delayed for localization purposes. The almost ruined Troika, as the game was pirated to and fro in the months to its final release.

But yes, it's bad. Not just that it's pirated, but that it's on the Xbox, Bethesda's primary platform. I never got confirmed numbers, but an insider once told me Oblivion sold primarily on the Xbox and significantly less on the PC and PS3. This hurts pretty bad.

I also watched a bit of that dude streaming Fallout 3 until I got bored of it. That guy was probably more of an action guy, skipping through many dialogues and mainly FPS:ing stuff.

That said, the game looks really terrible. Way below my already low expectations. Particularly horrible moments were:

    1) Talking to the person turned into a ghoul from the Megaton explosion. Some of the most horrible dialogue I've ever witnessed I think. I'm guessing it was supposed to be humoristic but it came off *extremely* badly.

    2) Dude managing to FPS gun down two Super Mutants at what I think was quite early on in the game.

    3) Dude hanging around the Megaton ruins for a minute or two right after blowing it up, and only getting "minor radiation poisoning".

    4) 3rd person cam looks better than Oblivion, but still really shitty. Horrible animations are still there.

As for the good stuff, well... I'm sorry, but I'm struggling for anything which I thought was actually *good*. The graphics were so-so, but the draw distance was nice enough. I kinda liked how the Megaton ruins looked, but sort of messed up that they put up an invisible barrier around the crater.

So yeah, it looked really terrible all in all.

Ironic indeed though, that the game leaks for Xbox360 first.

Seems like you have the same problem in Oblivion where in situations where people should react (i.e. the fight), they just continue to wander around.

    Blown opportunity,

*sigh* At least that's the only positive here, people get a more honest look at Fallout 3 before its release.

I can't imagine anyone, unless he's blind, stupid or hyped up, being positive about those animations or that voice acting. That is seriously low standard stuff, barely better than Oblivion.

I have to agree, I thought the mother situation was awfully lame, too predictable, and cliche'

I'm kinda waiting for Bethesda to use this as an excuse for delaying the release date.

That was such a stupid mistake, I mean, weren't they thinking of things like that, and learn from Oblivion?

EDIT - The Overseer's speech made me want to vomit.

Too late for delaying, it's already gone gold.

Just because it's gone gold doesn't mean that can't hold onto the distribution.

BTW - Did anyone notice that when a person runs into a nothing, they are just scooted to the side like they're on rails?

Crap, I was writing a long reply but then my browser crashed. Must have been out of misery from seeing what Fallout 3 has become and killed itself .

In short (and my subjective opinion), I didn't like what I saw so far which most likely says enough about the rest of the game. The graphics seems outdated, but I can live with that as long as the rest is OK. Unfortunately everything that was wrong with Oblivion is still wrong in Fallout 3 (bad looking characters, bad voice acting, bad combat, floating NPCs ...). At least you can finally choose between some dialog options, but the voices and characters seems to ruin it. It just doesn't look convincing. It's a shame really. If you look at how Half-Life 2 made you really believe the characters were 'alive' and human, and then how static and dead Fallout 3's characters are...

I doubt I'll be buying the game as it's just not Fallouty enough to me.
I have a floccinaucinihilipilification for signatures.
