German PC Games previews Fallout: New Vegas

Over at The Vault someone calling himself Rootmars has posted a summary of the preview in this month's German PC Games (called Gamer by Rootmars, though according to Ausir that's a mistake)
[*]Opening sequence: Courier is executed with a headshot. No ambush.[*]Character look creation: Mitchell holds a mirror in front of your face "I hope I put you back together properly so you recognize yourself."[*]Character creation: G.O.A.T. is replaced with a psychoanalysis test.[*]Weapons: picture of a hunting rifle included. Available modifications are scope, larger magazine and a 3rd one for faster load between shots.[*]Weapons: picture of a normal and a unique 9mm Pistol. Shown mods: scope and magazine enlargement. One gun shown with both scope and enlarged magazine.[*]Weapons: The unique pistol has a unique skin, engravings and a picture of Virgin Mary on the grip. This could mean that every unique weapon has its own skin. "These rare guns not only look UNIQUE, but have unique properties."[*]Weapons: Concept art of a guy in the trenchoat from the teaser wielding a Fallout 3-style minigun (It's a little bit smaller though)[*]Goodsprings: When you leave the Powder Ganger Quest unsolved, you'll encounter them later when they are more powerful.[*]Goodsprings: You can convince Mayor Trudi to ambush the Powder Gangers with a sufficient sneak skill.[*]Some choices you make during the game reveal their consequences far later.[*]Some NPC companions will have their own quests too, not only Raul.[*]Radar: A new yellow bar for companions is added by Obsidian.[*]"Caps" are mentioned as currency, not poker chips or dollars.[*]Hint that weapon modifications can be found in the wastes. (May be speculation)[*]Some statements hint that the NCR and the Brotherhood of Steel somehow work together - you easily gain access to Helios 1 by having a good reputation with NCR and BOS
Dialogue with Fantastic in Helios 1 can be influenced with a high barter skill.[*]Game world will be as big as the one from Fallout 3.[*]Avellone on game development: "We are currently working on the dialogues and places. The rest looks pretty good for now."[/list]

It's actually PC Games, not PC Gamer. Rootmars made a mistake.

Not really. They could have been assimilated into the NCR as a result of said war between them. It's either join the NCR or get slaughtered by an army with much more brute force then theirs.
Now my avatar makes even less sense.

Uh, keep in mind, New Vegas runs in 2280. That's many years after the NCR-BoS war.

Also one of the Hoover Dam endings from Van Buren:
With peace came cooperation, and with cooperation came growth. Hoover Dam blossomed under the new peace between the Brotherhood of Steel at Maxson's Bunker and the NCR under Governor Joseph Dodge.

If every weapon has its own unique skin that would be pretty damn cool... yet another thing I was disappointed with Bethesda about, they just took the lazy way out by the looks of it. "It can mush an mutie's head quicker in V.A.T.S.! Unique!!!"

Makes sense seeing as NCR hasn't got New Vegas to join the New California Republic yet, so the whole area would use the caps currency still, seeing as it was close to where Fallout 1 was located.

I liked the idea of Ring Pulls from Tactics actually, not every place in the Fallout world should use caps, it just wouldn't make sense to have it as a worldwide currency.

Also, I'm wondering why this German magazine got exclusive news that PC Gamer, OXM and PSM3 didn't.

Goodsprings: When you leave the Powder Ganger Quest unsolved, you'll encounter them later when they are more powerful.

    That sounds really awesome.

really? trying a bit too hard to whine about stuff, are we? I'm fucking glad to hear that piece of information.

with every bit of new information that comes out, this is starting too look more and more like Fallout 3.5. but in a good way. Fallout 3 gameplay and graphics, but much better written. and more colorful. didn't really expect much else, but I was hoping for at least a few bigger changes in gameplay mechanics.

I'm not whining, just having fun with an OXM sorta attitude. Of course this is good news.

Well, it does keep getting better every time I hear more.
I am really exited about this game now. Assuming everything we have heard so far is correct, this should be superior to Fallout 3.

But when will the BIG two be answered?
    1. will there be hand held Titan II ICBM gun?
    2. can we duel wield?

Bethesda has announced that it will be taking control of the development for the much anticipated 2010 RPG, Fallout: New Vegas. They say it is to be noted that the game will now include a much bigger version of the Fatman portable nuke catapult and the updated engine will allow the player to jump at spartanic heights while dual wielding small weaponry.

And there's no reason to think that they need to keep everything from from VB.

It doesn't really make sense. Every settlement in FO2 used gold, not just NCR. I think that has essentially been retconned, which is a smart move if you ask me.

Duel Wield wastes ammo, and is very inaccurate, so bad idea.

They may not include every element from VB, but the NCR-BoS war could make a good explanation for the alliance between them.

Gold should be the money, not caps. Why the fuck would the NCR take a step backwards with caps.

    BUT! IT's KEEEEWL!!!

It doesn't really make sense. Every settlement in FO2 used gold, not just NCR.
The mine town (umm, Redding? iirc) used scripts of their own.

I think it sounds pretty good so far. I'm not about to start picking gnat shit out of pepper over every little thing.
I'd rather make a smaller dedicated fan base ecstatic than worry too much about the larger audience. --Brian Fargo, one of the good guys.

I hope the mirror does a better job than the Gene Projection of showing the player what they will look like. For some reason the chargen preview never accurately represents what the player ends up looking like, so you go from "how dapper" to "oh god where is the tilde, showracemenu SHOWRACEMENU".

Also pleased to see unique weapons will have unique textures. Don't know why the modders had to implement that themselves considering how simple it would have been for Bethesda to implement it in FO3.

Looking forward to it with baited breath, I wonder if it will be compatible with the current revision of the GECK toolset? Then, on launch we will have some solid dialogue and quests as well as the tools to make whatever changes and port scripts across.

That is a brilliant expression and I'm pleased to have learned it.
