Unless the pirate holder is the IP-holder to the product he's pirating from Bethesda, that really doesn't make that much sense M.

It don't matter anyway, the file is out there, can't be undone. It's just Bored Lawyer Syndrome again.

Must hush up the existence of the 2 previous games! A good sound track might spur people to try it! They might see what they lost!

    CEASE AND DESIST NOW!

That said it's probably just: "Oh my god, they're stealing our IP! CEASE AND DESIST!"

I'd laugh if it was put back up on the site, but with a price tag on it.

Bethesda would probably figure they could make some money from it.

Fuckin' awesome. Downloading now from the NMA mirror.

Morgan's work on Fallout is just so damn good. I really hate the trend in video game music of unmemorable, vague "epic" orchestral scores that are forgotten mere minutes later. I could listen to stuff like the Fallout or Dune 2/2000 OST all day long.

This is what Bethesda can never made Fallout be like.

I think the track that gained the most is "My Chrysalis Highwayman". I can now hear the delicate chimes in the background... awesome stuff.

I went and emailed Mark from his personal site. I feel talking with famous people through public forums isn't really a good thing to do. So I went and thanked him in a less impersonal way.

You guys should do the same, I reckon.

    :EDIT:
And he replied (woohoo!!!). I'm not going to post the email here, of course. But I've come to learn (I'm not saying from who... ;) ) that Bethesda took down the download link solely for contractual issues. I don't know how far that "solely" actually goes (as in, I don't know if they plan to allow the distribution of the OST again and/or in the same manner). They own the rights for the music, and are protecting their franchise.

I've also learned that Mark Morgan checks up on NMA! So, if you're reading this, Mark, hello! :D

If Mark Morgan needs a lawyer for it, I'd suggest Jeffrey Gersh. :)

    *listens to soundtrack*

...shoot. This soundtrack went with the Blizzard approach by actually blending the music tracks together to make this soundtrack sound like it's just one long seamless track. It also destroys some of my favorite music moments I remembered from the game. For example, if I want to listen to "City of the Dead", it's going to start at the 5 second point rather than it's original starting point. This basically means instead of the nice build up that all the fallout music had to start with, It starts five seconds late with no build up and with "Second Chance" music playing over it. It sounds so out of place that it ruins the mood.

The original tracks from before had every piece of music as it's own stand alone piece that you could select and not have to worry about the music just exploding on my speakers because the opening five seconds of it was blended into the last five seconds of the track before it. The music for Fallout was all about distinguishing one area to another and the music played a huge part in that.

I know this is probably what the composer wanted to do for this specific release and I can respect that. If there is one thing soundtracks love to do is be unpredictable and inconsistent.

Oho, official publishing. That can either mean that Bethesda is ok with it and it will be released again + advert on the bethblog or it will be buyable. :P I am tensed.

Shoot, you're right. Please give us a remastered soundtrack that isn't blended like so.

I like the crossfaded version myself, but I wouldn't mind a version with looped tracks to be released either, mainly for replacing the original version with it in-game.

    Hope ain't enough, apparently.

It shouldn't be too hard to loop the tracks ourselves with audacity or something.

Actually, in some tracks I'm quite bothered by some of the 'sharper' sounds like the chimes. I doubt the old mp3s will be removed from my usual playlist just yet. :)

Maybe I'm more annoyed with it than others because I've got a fairly broad hearing range (compared to the average joe).

A FLAC version would indeed be welcome btw.

    Thanks, Mark!

Just a heads-up for those who haven't grabbed it yet, if it is rereleased commercially our fair usage becomes void, and the NMA mirror will be removed.

I have my doubts tho. About it being rereleased period. Too much Bethesda overprotectiveness to overcome.
