Since Christmas is around the corner, I wanted to buy some classic or vintage games for a couple of my cousins. I'm talking Neo-Geo Art of Fighting kind of vintage games (Game and console) :) - I've seen a few places but they use Paypal, Stripe, Invoice Simple or 2Checkout.

I was very comfortable with Google Checkout (Too bad it's gone) but I've heard a lot of horror stories about Paypal and a few of these.

What is that you can recommend or perhaps are their some online video game store that you guys trust?

Hopefully they ship to Canada as well.

    Thx!

I have personally never had an issue with GOG. Beyond personal experience I can't say much, but I would tentatively recommend at least looking at GOG. I don't remember what payment processor they use, off the top of my head.

EDIT: Checked GOG, they don't seem to have what you're looking for. You mean actual physical cartridges and such, I assume.

I dunno. Ebay springs to mind, but I'm well aware how risky shopping on Ebay can be.

Classic games are great. When they work. I find Windows 95 games to be the biggest pain in the dick to get working, so I snagged some ancient POS XP Laptop for those cases. I find the best place to find (info about) games that are so old people forget they exist, lies somewhere between the Chanverse and Codexverse which both tend to be riddled with Cancer that scares non-autistics away. I plan on creating a Discord server at some point that will cover all games before the Great Decline of (PC) Gaming, which was sometime around Y2K. This theoretical framework would allow temporary hosting of old games (not just PC) not unlike I have done before with DisOrder. It would allow hosting of mods for said games as well, since places like ModDb and Nexus are riddled with shit. This would not be Fallout focused, or even RPG focused. Basically the place you are looking for does not exist. There is no easy way to collect old games physically, or even purchase them for a decent price. Not online. You like getting ripped off on Ebay? I don't. You shouldn't even have to.

I bought Resident Evil Director's Cut full price in the 90's. The music was awful, but I did not know that, due to not owning the other version. I was aware of the differences through a proxy. Why can't I just download the ISO if it is no longer financially feasible for them to port BARBIES DREAM HOUSE to the Playstation Network?

What is the barrier to trading games online? Lack of trust and draconian corporate influence. For instance, somewhere out there a poor bastard is looking for a copy of Wonderful 101 for the Wii U. I own it. I played it once. I didn't click with it. I put it back in the box and there it sits. Opened but still mildly cared for. I would gladly trade this game for I don't know let me think...Twilight Princess HD for the Wii U. But I don't want to go create some dumb account, fill out several pages of info, setup some complex billing thing, then create another account for some specific forum with fifty fucking thousand sub-fora and fauna filling my screen so full I can't even form a coherent thread. So I just won't get the game and I will keep this game I still don't want to play. Because I don't trust anyone and I have every reason not to.

For instance I have a folder filled with every known 80's Japanese computer game that was never translated or released in the US.

Honestly, you'd think there'd be more than a few online "trading post" type setups for physical copies of games and older consoles. I would never recommend Amazon because FUCK Amazon, but I know that a number of resellers operate THROUGH Amazon and you might be able to cut Amazon out entirely in some cases if you follow the leads back to the resellers' sites.

Amazon offers the incentive of FREE SHIPPING with Prime. Competing with FREE SHIPPING is where any retailer is going to get absolutely anally violated in every since of the word.

Once I found out how Amazon treats employees I decided FREE SHIPPING wasn't worth my fucking immortal soul on the off chance I had one.

@TorontRayne - Yes when they work for sure. I still struggle setting up Alone in the Dark on my PC. I also wish they upgrade King's Quest 6 to today's standard. LOVED that rpg. As far as music goes, I actually really enjoyed 8 bit or 16 bit music more than what we have now. Really miss those classic video game sounds.

@Cliffy McEdgeface - Thx for the tips bud. Yeah I would love to get with Amazon but I stopped for similar reasons. I might give in though . . . :(

As I recall... A few brick & Mortar retailers tried threatening Amazon once—once. Amazon made it known that if it continued, they would build a warehouse in that region, and offer same day free shipping. The threat fizzled.

I've bought some stuff on eBay via PayPal with no problems. I have a Sega Genesis/32X combo and scored my holy grail, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, for dirt cheap. That and a Game Genie. They were loose cartridges but I don't mind. I just care about playing the game. And now I have it on the original hardware, PS2 (via Sonic Mega Collection Plus), and PC (via Sega Genesis & MegaDrive Classics on Steam. Since I got the cartridges, I have not separated them in any way. Sonic 3 has remained plugged into Sonic & Knuckles since and shall remain that way for all time.

Other than that, I usually hit up flea markets. There's two where I live that have pretty decent game stores. Managed to score a Saturn and a few games for it, and I'm holding the hell onto it. Collecting for the Saturn is expensive as hell as that console didn't sell well in North America when it was new. I'd really like to get another, dead Saturn to turn into a sleeper PC, though.
