lost oddysey only barely making the list
final fantasy 9 not making the list

dark cloud 2 made the list? huh?

The vast majority of gamers have no clue what it means to "roleplay" to begin with so I am not surprised at all by this list.
It's basically just a safe popularity contest.
While pathetic, what else is there to expect from the unwashed masses?
They have no barometer of quality so what do you expect from them? It's like expecting a pig not to shit indoors.

theres a lot of games that are popular with rpg fans that didnt make the list. tyrrany, fallout 2, literally any SMT game that isnt persona, kotor 2, gothic, arcanum. these ganes were left off the list for dark cloud 2, destiny, and other random shit.

it comes off more like a list of modern slop and games the writer has been told are classics but hasnt actually touched personally

Oh Graves.... Oh you silly boy. I'm not talking about a popularity contest within actual RPG circles. I'm talking about a popularity contest within (casual) gamers(tm) circles.

I guess I need to play those at some point. I have ME1 & 2 installed, but have never launched them. Witcher 3 I won for free in a contest —day one; never played it past the tutorial area. It is too much like Witcher 2 than 1 for my taste. I quit Witcher 2 sometime after the Kraken fight, and I haven't launched it since, and that was years ago; likely the year it released.

Is it strange that I have never had any desire to play any of the Elder Scrolls games? I tried Skyrim once, but never made it past 10 mins.

I bought Oblivion CE to see what this new (to me) studio was capable of making. I was impressed! I had high hopes for FO3. The shine wore off after exiting the sewers, and conversing with the city inhabitants.

Being impressed wore off with the release of the first FO3 screenshots, and seeing that it was merely Oblivion reskinned; nothing but a heartless husk of the Fallout IP; cherry-picked nouns, and generalized item appearance. And of course nothing looked like the original series, though it was said to be the original objects; like Mr. Handy for instance.

I have only played The Witcher 3. I want to play the rest one day.

The main things that bothered me about Witcher 2 & 3, were that the developer removed the alternate camera system that allowed for an Iso-styled point and click adventure. Secondly Geralt was a skilled swordsman in the first game. The challenge was in the choice of tactical approach, where as in the later games he could lose simple fights for swinging wildly at arbitrary scenery like trees and crates instead of opponents—not possible in Witcher 1 [afaik], and he could dodge attacks via aerial flips in the first game.

Thirdly... They super-simplified the alchemy in the later games. In W1 it was possible to prefer certain ingredients over others that would also work, but those would lose out on the synergistic properties that could result in a more powerful potion than normal. Fourth... Geralt was a pragmatist; he would use potions as they became useful during the fight. In the later games Geralt lost this ability, and had to kneel in the mud to imbibe potions, where he was guessing what might be useful or needed in his next encounter.

And lastly: They rearranged his face (for the worse IMO). Geralt did not look like himself in Witcher 2 or 3.

Can't tell if serious or not... Lol.

Of course I have. Depends what you think is fantasy, I suppose. I like the Souls games, though I guess that's more action.
Hmmm honestly 10 minutes is such a small amount of time for you to have been turned off. I'm guessing because of how scripted the beginning of Skyrim is? Morrowind is definitely better in this regard, you can kill any npc ala NV, custom spells, etc
