At something awful, new VB screenshot

So JE, was this the magic screen where we'd reload our own ammunition? Can you tell us anything about what was involved there? I really liked your ideas on that.

    Fallout 3 won't be Morrowind-with-guns

Does this mean they're going to remove all guns from FO3?

    Weapon upgrades

Can you explain what you mean by barrels? I mean, it might be okay to fit a more accurate barrel onto your rifle, but please don't do that nonsense JA2 did where glueing a pipe onto the front of your gun increased accuracy. Extended magazines don't really make sense either. I mean, you could...

Vault people and items in the wasteland

Well apparently it didn't. The two cartridges are 10mm and .44 Magnum. These aren't technologically different from the 9mm or .45. The 10mm was developed in 1983, and the .44 Magnum in 1956. They aren't technologically different. They're the same metallic cartridge, with smokeless powder and...

Vault people and items in the wasteland

Maybe he feels that a (mostly failed) experimental cartridge like the 10mm and an extremely powerful .44 Magnum cartridge are illogical choices for being the two most common ammo types. Fallout had a flaw, and maybe he wants to fix it. If that is at the risk of being inconsistant, I say, so be...

Vault people and items in the wasteland

Depends on which load. The load they made for the revolvers traveled at around 900 fps. The load they made for rifles, which wasn't meant to be used in a handgun but could if a guy was willing to risk a nasty explosion, traveled about twice that. For both, it was a 200-grain bullet. Comparing...

Vault people and items in the wasteland

Whoops. You're right. I didn't mean the .44 Special. I was refering to the .44 American. The .44-40 Winchester Centerfire (W.C.F.) was an old black powder cartridge. It was introduced in 1873, to go with with the Winchester '73 lever-action rifle. At its time, it was just about the most...

Vault people and items in the wasteland

The 10mm Auto failed because the wimpier and female agents complained about its recoil and the size requirements of a 10mm firearm. There wasn't anything especially wrong with the 10mm. It was just decided that the .40 S&W, a shortened, lighter 10mm, would be a better choice.

Vault people and items in the wasteland

Most likely, he's thinking of the .44-40 WCF, or possibly the .44 Special, which was available as a black powder cartridge in its early days.
