My older brother bought the first Fallout back when it first came out. He let me mess around with it when he was done. It wasn't till a few years later that I actually looked back and started playing for the story. So 1997 for first glimpse 2002-2003 for first actual interest.

In-game voice acting, a multitude of wonderfully deadly weapons, oh and the occasional bait and switch style quest.

I never did manage to find a copy of the original wasteland. But I know it by reputation, and would love to see this game released.
