The 1.3.4 or rather the 1.2 patch from TeamX enables the children in the .exe file, but it does not come with the children animations. For this you need the F1 Child Patch, install only the data folder but not the falloutw.exe (this would undo the changes from the TeamX patch).

Thanks, for what it's worth if I turn down the resolution from 1680x1050 to 1024x768 it seems to work again, a to high resolution seems to be problematic. The Hi-res patch seems to be rather popular, I wonder if I am the only one who had this problem?

Well, according to the readme files, everything is compatible with everything else. Also the problem occurs even with nothing but the hi-res patch installed.
