I've seen the first few episodes of Wolf's Rain and dropped it. Then again, I watched the first few episodes of NGE and dropped it.

I can't think of a way that it could affect your game. Each map is saved in a separate file, so if the game crashed upon trying to enter a specific map, nothing would have been saved relating to that map.

Have you tried Palette Stealer Suspender? That did the trick for me on Win 7. I reckon ddraw.ini only exists if you're using Sfall or some mod that incorporates it.

Though it's been said previously (non-officially) that the first game is set roughly fifty years after the bombs.

Played some <s>Diablo Clones Inc.</s> Torchlight, which was free at GOG a little while back. The main campaign was rather short. Also a bit odd that the main story dungeons don't scale, but all the side dungeons do, meaning you level up doing them and get too powerful for the main campaign...

You could try transferring a necropolis.sav file from an earlier (uninvaded) save to your save folder, in addition to those other things (but I'd only change the game timer as a last restort). If you don't have an earlier save, start up a new game and just run over there to get one.

Actually you cannot lead your shots unless there's another valid target you could aim at - if your opponent is faster than you and moving across empty tiles, you can never hit it. You can read about this and much more here. There are some minor errors in your plot and setting summary but let's...

Hm, then the only other thing would be that you can only ask each question one time, so if you ask "why do we have to fight?" and don't follow it up with "I believe there's a peaceful solution bla bla", and leave dialogue and save, you're out of luck. Which also restocks semi-randomly, so there may not be a Super Sledge every time.

NPCs may level up in Fo2. Lifegiver, Educated, Skilled and Gifted also modify your normal SP and HP gains. But I think that may be it.
