I don't think there's such a thing as an ideal tool for self-defense. I'm guessing in most self-defense situations you will find yourself in close range of your attacker, though.

Some cards won't even turn on the fans until they reach a certain temperature. I had a GTX 970 that had the fans off in 2D mode. Removing the CPU fan, on the other hand, will most likely lead to an emergency shutdown immediately after turning on the power.

AFAIR, the turret console has a two-tier skill check (Science, probably?) the first one letting you disable the turrets and the second one letting you reprogram them to attack Horrigan. Not sure if that is accurate, I'd have to check.
