Any suggestions? I'm yearning for a new(old) game

If you want calm, try Osmos http://www.hemispheregames.com/osmos/. I know it isn't RPG, but it's very chill, slow, and fun. The gameplay is incredibly dynamic, and I'd recommend it to just about anyone.

Steam just reached 5 million concurrent users.

I consider steam pretty useful. Non-physical copies of games are a lot easier to keep track of when moving around a lot and switching computers. I don't need to keep backups either. All the awesome steam sales aren't too shabby either :D

    Planescape: Torment

Planescape is one of those games where it's actually fun to talk to un-named NPCs. There are a few times when you can learn something about one of your followers from these conversations too...

    Deus Ex

Ah, Dues Ex. Another game I keep going back to. I loved all the parts of the game where I felt like I was actually immersed, Hong Kong being a major standout. My favorite pastime involved shooting the silenced pistol at pigeons in the market.

    Grimlands announced

Reminds me of FO Online. I will never buy a MMO unless it has no monthly payments. So meh.

The Art of Video Games Smithsonian Exhibit

I think you just won the game. In other words, I too read your article and I think it's great. Nice work. I really hope that this is just a preliminary thing to gauge numbers and not a final assessment. Would they really trust an online poll for their actual exhibit?

    Font "styling" - need help

There are tons of tutorials online for things like this. Experiment with some keywords on google for Gimp or Photoshop. I know my stumbleupon account gets wayyy too many. If I find a good one I'll send it your way.

    RPG ideas?

Quick update: As I'm writing this completely from scratch, it's taking me a while to code the engine etc (also who knew dialog would be such a bitch?!) As of now I have a -grid based pathfinding system for all shapes -rough AI - (constant-bearing persuit and evasion, wandering, etc)...

A Blatant Example of Mass Media Manipulation

The problem is that lots of people get their news from one source and one source only, making tricks like this all the more successful.

    new "Rage" trailer

I really have to agree with sea and rcorporon on this one. Post apoc is getting stale. I liked the first half of the trailer, but then I realized it was just going to be a straight forward shooter and it made me depressed. the post apoc setting has so much to offer besides monsters...

The Art of Video Games Smithsonian Exhibit

PS:T had some great visuals, especially when you got to the higher tier spells. The best art in the game was far from visual based though. The fact that it had characters of any depth makes it lead well ahead of many many games on the site.

The Art of Video Games Smithsonian Exhibit

slightly On Topic: ahh yes the Grim Fandango vs. Fallout debate rages on as usual I see. I of course opt to roam the wasteland in a pimped out bone wagon. Edit: after looking through the site in a bit more detail, I can now say that I think this idea is just stupid. First of all gathering...

Holy Crap LA Noir facial technology!

I agree, though games like Half Life 2 aren't all that much better, because during "dialog" I always end up jumping around, throwing things at the character talking, and totally breaking my own immersion in the world (ADD?).

Holy Crap LA Noir facial technology!

It's not really the same with games though for me. Unless I'm playing a purely textual game, I "imagine" exactly what I'm given. If I'm playing a game of chess I don't imagine a majestic war of tactical brilliance, I imagine chess. I can still be involved with the story without imagining it...

Heh. I knew about the warehouse but I always assumed you just went back to the generator because...they looked so similar.
