Metacritic Matters: How Review Scores Hurt Video Games

I think the thing that annoys me about the situation with Obsidian, is that everyone seems to give Bethesda a complete pass on the exact same issues. I found Fallout 3 to be more buggy than New Vegas, and yet everyone that reviews games acts like it was perfect.

Torment: Tides of Numenera Screenshot, FO3 DLC sale

I don't see those user-made screens as being improvements. Way too much HDR washes out the background scene, and covers many texture details.

    Underrail Trailer, Shadowrun Alpha Video

Hey wait, I thought no one wanted to play turn based games with an isometric camera angle?!

Wasteland 2 first look video released, update

The point is that they are different games. It's not about "bashing" Fallout. People who expected this game to just be a clone of Fallout are going to be disappointed. Personally I'm not about to sit here and pretend that I have some philosophical reason to favor one dialogue system...

Wasteland 2 first look video released, update

This video makes me happy in my pants.

Mark Morgan to score New Torment

Think of it as a type of anthology. This is the same concept John Carpenter had for the Halloween franchise. Unfortunately he also found at that some people are too stubborn to accept the concept.

Bethesda registers Fallout trademark for a TV series

The next announcement we'll read about is how their lawyers shut down Nuka Break.

    Torment & Numenera interview

Wasteland 2 was a no-brainer. I'll have to see more details about their plans for this before I put down any cash. I'm still not sure how I feel about it not being a Planescape game. That's where all the lore for Torment was drawn from.

Numenera is the setting of Torment Successor

Right now Fargo is feeling a bit like John Carpenter after he attempted to turn the Halloween franchise into an anthology series, with Part 3. Personally I think it sounds like a good plan. Of course I'm also one of the mutant freaks that thought Halloween 3 was better than every other...

Fallout 4 teased? Three Dog returning

We know that many (most) of the Fallout 3 developers did not play Fallout our Fallout 2 prior to making the 3rd. It's really not a stretch to assume they didn't play New Vegas, either.

    Wasteland 2 new screenshot surfaces

Do we want an RPG or a reality simulator? I'm fine with an RPG, that uses text descriptions for many things.

    Wasteland 2 new screenshot surfaces

It's nice to see green. An atomic war would not magically convert all terrain into desert. I see nothing to complain about here.

    Wasteland 2 Ask a Dev Answers #2

I like everything I'm hearing. The only negative reaction I had was about stealing, but I gave it some thought, and in a party based game with 7 other rangers it does seem completely out of place. Someone in this thread also mentioned the fact that stealing mechanics can be highly abused...

inXile and Unity crowdsourcing Wasteland 2 3D models

I think it's a great idea, and I think some around here vastly underestimate the amount of time you can sink in to having people building props for a game of this size. Does someone really need to read all the design docs, and have a sit down with Fargo and the W2 team to make a "broken...

    Colin McComb on crowdfunding

Hmm I'd rather have a Wasteland 2, with the names of donors spread around the game world, than no Wasteland 2 at all. Some people will find literally anything to complain about. (I assume someone was complaining, hence his post)

Matt Chat 172: Josh Sawyer on New Vegas

It's not really silly, it's just how the world works. I'm sure if they were offered it, Obsidian would do another Fallout game. I'd certainly rather play another one from them, then one made by Bethesda. It would serve them no useful purpose to be overly negative about what is essentially a...

Chris Keenan on skills and perma-death

I assumed quick load/save was a given, but it's nice to have confirmation. I enjoy a challenge, but I didn't want W2 to be a roguelike.

Kotaku returns to Fallout: New Vegas

The reason they have TF2 up there is because they just put out another free Halloween event for it. As to the "Borderlands engine" comment: Borderlands has a distinctive art style, but the game just uses the Unreal engine.

Kotaku returns to Fallout: New Vegas

Buying the Fallout franchise kept them from having to actually come up with their own ideas. Hence the game even featured the utterly destroyed bad guys from F2. As I played Xcom Enemy Unknown this past month, I couldn't help but imagine if Fallout 3 had been made by people who actually...
