Many a True Nerd "Fallout 3 is Better than you Think"

In the end, it wasn't better than we thought.

Why do people think Fallout 3 was actually good?

Definitely; if Bethesda has any strengths at creating RPGs it's the worldbuilding and exploration. Unfortunately, at least for their Fallout games, it's mostly puddle-deep. 3 and 4 would definitely make more sense if they were only set decades after the Great War. Though, that wouldn't solve the...

Why do people think Fallout 3 was actually good?

I will say the detention camp in Point Lookout is probably some of the best actual worldbuilding Bethesda did in this game. The idea that the US was doing internment for Chinese-Americans like it did with Japanese-Americans in WWII is chilling. Of course, there was an actual Chinese spy that...

Fallout 5 to be the next Bethesda game after TESVI

Fair point, though "successfully implementing literally any feature" being the bar that measures whether a game is better than Star Citizen after a literal decade of development is still super hilarious. I think the comparison was usually made between what Star Citizen originally promised and...

Fallout 5 to be the next Bethesda game after TESVI

I didn't mean that it would destroy Star Citizen, I meant that it would clown on it for the amusement of anyone who isn't in the SC cult. There's a bunch of space games out already that did the same thing, so Bethesda joining in would be icing on the cake.

Fallout 5 to be the next Bethesda game after TESVI

The Doom series has flourished under Bethesda precisely because they acquired Id Software and then largely let them do their own thing. Sure wish they did that with Black Isle instead of having a legal fight over the Fallout IP just to turn it into what it is now. I don't expect Fallout 5 to be...

Can you really call yourself a Fallout fan if you love Fallout 4, honestly?

I agree that gatekeeping who is and isn't a fan is stupid, no matter what fandom. I personally consider 2 and New Vegas to be the best in the series, but I have a bit of a soft spot for 3 since it's what got me into Fallout to begin with. I didn't play around with mods when I did my one and only...

I know this is heresy, but I like Fallout 76

I didn't care about the basebuilding in 4 at all, I nearly quit the game when it made me craft shit to access the Institute, but apparently everybody else loves it. Doubling down on it in 76 was certainly the right decision from a business standpoint. Shame that an inferior shoehorned version of...

    The Institute's Plan

I literally didn't remember a bit of that. Goes to show how much Fallout 4 sticks with you.

    Fallout 2 mod Fallout: Yesterday

I drink soy milk and I acknowledge NV/1/2 are far superior to 3/4/76.

    Will Fallout 3 be remembered?

Some of the old Fallout guys came together and made The Outer Worlds. That's probably a good sign to move on, in the end. Also, lol the poll responses overwhelmingly think Fallout 3 will definitely be remembered. They're not really wrong, I just didn't expect it from this site's users.

    Fallout 2 mod Fallout: Yesterday

Glad this is being made - I can't wait to play it when it's done.

    The Institute's Plan

The Institute had a plan? I played through this game, sided WITH the Institute, and couldn't tell you for the life of me what their overarching goal was.

    Will Fallout 3 be remembered?

Fallout 3 introduced me to the series, and I've played through it like four times, so I'll definitely remember it on a personal level. Two of those were after I realized it wasn't that good and that I should be playing NV or the classic titles, but what can I say, I'm a completionist. Since FO3...

Was Fallout 3 your introduction to the Fallout series?

FO3 was definitely my introduction to the series. I was 12 at the time and I loved it...for a while. Eventually I got bored with it, and I actually signed up for this very forum around that time. I felt defensive about the game at first, but in time I was really able to get into FO1 & 2. I guess...

    Fallout 2 radiation poisoning

Do the SPECIAL penalties last forever or only for the duration of radiation poisoning? Thanks in advance.

    FO: A new hope

As a modern game in today's game industry, Fallout 3 does well. As a successor to the previous two games, Fallout 3 fails miserably. That is why I play all three.

Will you play Hardcore mode from the get go?

I cleaned out the entirety of Tenpenny Tower that way, with Fawkes. Made a killing!

Will you play Hardcore mode from the get go?

Yes, i'll probably try it out. FO3 was too easy for me, so a challenge is welcome in my book. I just hope Hardcore doesn't boil down to slighty smarter enemies, impossible-to-win casino games (this is vegas, after all) and the dehydration/weighted ammo features being broken and frustrating.
