    Van Buren vehicles

All of those vehicles ran on SECs or MFCs, both of which are/were a limited commodity. Considering the power generated by one SEC or MFC in a few of the Fallout weapons, it's conceivable that a vehicle powered by either source could go many a' mile on one charge. Oh, and here are the other...

    Van Buren news in PCZone

It changed after I left Black Isle. In my write-up, the semi carried practically infinite gear and all vehicles. It was later changed to a mobile science lab. Nah. I think it was originally called something else, but I changed it to New Canaan because the Mormons had wandered there from...

    Van Buren news in PCZone

I suppose we could be realistic and have un-oiled firearms across the wasteland rust closed and all the ammunition expire, but I wouldn't guess most players would find that to be particularly interesting or fun. I'm sure some people would like that, but I don't think they would be in the...

Motorcycle w/ sidecar Dune buggy Cop car Semi w/ trailer Train There were pros and cons to each vehicle. The motorcycle was fast, but it could only carry three people and couldn't go on severe terrain. Semi w/ trailer could carry all the other vehicles (well, except the train), but...

    Troika's PA RPG shots!!

No need to apologize to me; Fong and Whelpley wrote the renderer. Overall, I think it looks very, very similar. The main difference I see in this engine is that their character shadows don't clash with the environmental lighting (like ours did lolz).

    Troika's PA RPG shots!!

Wow, that looks great. It looks a lot like the VB engine did towards the end. Hopefully Troika's runs with less overhead than ours did. EDIT: Character shadows look better in that they were more well-integrated.

Good luck. Follow through on your intentions.

At something awful, new VB screenshot

Why does this even need to be mentioned? I had a PhD professor of history try to tell me that Constantine made Christianity the state religion of the Roman Empire. A person's pedigree has little to nothing to do with their validity on any subject unless experience is specificially the topic of...

Re: Horns Of Dilemma To be honest, I think part of the solution to this problem is to not explicitly ask such questions, as the narrator, but to present situations that cause the audience to ask questions -- many of which may not have been "intended" by the author. A healthy exploration of a...

Saint seems to think they were all cults; that's why I was asking. I do consider the BoS to be at least a little cultish. They seem to have a specific goal: the preservation and protection of technology. I wouldn't go so far as to say they worship technology, but... their focus on...

Eh, I didn't think so, but I could have missed something. You could argue that they revered knowledge, I guess.

By the way, I am curious, do people really think that the Children of the Cathedral or the Followers of the Apocalypse were interesting religious groups with a lot of depth? Personally, I didn't. I really wished that the BoS had more ritualistic depth to it. One of the most disappointing...

How could Fallout work on a Console?

Re: Mouseketeers I've never seen Fallout on a Mac. I know that with PCs running two monitors, it produces some funky palette issues. What does it look like on a Mac?

No. In the first part of your post, you ignore everything I already posted about what I consider to be the advantages of using a real-world religion. Specifically, that Christianity contains a lot of automatic cultural currency with most American and European audiences. Now, in this...

How could Fallout work on a Console?

The analog sticks on console controllers are hardly "bulky" or imprecise. People here are aware that you can easily play Fallout and Fallout 2 on a laptop with a pencil eraser pseudo-mouse, right? Those things are far more imprecise than a console analog stick.

    Staying true to Fallout

A lot of people had a lot of problems with being able to directly command NPCs. The later design just allowed the player to have a greater level of control over NPC behavior parameters through an interface similar to the F2 control screen. I think the NPC action bar might have also had some...

How could Fallout work on a Console?

You have a lower resolution (less screen space) and fuzzier quality per-pixel (resulting in thicker lines) on low-end TVs. I went straight from designing VB interfaces to designing console interfaces and man, it's like building with Duplo blocks on console. Also, console controllers have a...

At something awful, new VB screenshot

I wasn't arguing against the designer's (unknown, unless I've missed something) motives; I was arguing against Rosh's assertion that no real-world names have a place in Fallout. I think that a community of religious people surviving in a Vault would have a pretty good chance of preserving the...
