Am I in the minority when I say I'm not bothered by Super Mutants in Fallout 3?

Sure. But narratively its pretty stand alone. No one who played FO3 has ever said "wtf this is so confusing, maybe i need to play 1+2 to get the whole story". You don't need to know any of that information to get whats going on. Thats my point, the game was a perfect jumping on point for new...

Am I in the minority when I say I'm not bothered by Super Mutants in Fallout 3?

Its effectively one. Brand new studio doing it in a completely different genre. Its pretty divorced from 1+2, not that many references to those games. LOOOTS of people got into Fallout when Fallout 3 released.

Am I in the minority when I say I'm not bothered by Super Mutants in Fallout 3?

You absolutely can. We see it all the time, when there's a new reboot or a soft reboot, you retread old ground to introduce the old iconic stuff to the new ppl from 10-20 years ago that have never seen that before. I totally get, its boring as shit to you if you're not impressed with the...

Possibility of Obisidian working on Fallout...

Ii think its more significant than that. https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Fallout_2_endings New Vegas canonizes 11 endings and 3 canonizes 1. But yeah, I don't think they have to answer that question, but I think the likeliest is 1) NCR ending, because I think Sawyer said that was the most...

Am I in the minority when I say I'm not bothered by Super Mutants in Fallout 3?

Because they like it? And if I granted you that proposition, why not introduce those concepts if the new fans are not going to care either? It's stuff they like, that they think its cool. They're effectively kick starting a new franchise. They're going to use previous iconic stuff and build onto...

Am I in the minority when I say I'm not bothered by Super Mutants in Fallout 3?

Yeah, I can agree with that. Super Mutants being included doesnt bother me, but god bless they're not written well. They're basically orcs as you described. I think thats what should be objected to, not their inclusion. Theyve introduced gulpers, anglers, yaoo guai, mothmen, and a few others...

Am I in the minority when I say I'm not bothered by Super Mutants in Fallout 3?

OK well thats getting into the weeds when the purpose of this thread is specifically talking about super mutants. I think there's interesting gameplay and narrative reasons to have super mutants. When you think radiation, mutants are go hand-in-hand with that in scifi pop fiction. And Like I...

Am I in the minority when I say I'm not bothered by Super Mutants in Fallout 3?

"stripped out the [paramount] gameplay" "products that have neither the gameplay....of the original series"

Am I in the minority when I say I'm not bothered by Super Mutants in Fallout 3?

Are Super Mutants in New Vegas somehow invalid because its not in a CRPG? That's nonsense. Yeah, its a completely different take on the franchise which makes sense why they're treading old ground and including their vision of the old stuff. It's their take on those ideas and premises usings...

Am I in the minority when I say I'm not bothered by Super Mutants in Fallout 3?

Well regardless, I think a silver lining you could also push forward, is that certainly without Bethesda, I think a lot of people would think it'd be impossible to make a good Fallout game as the FPS-RPG hybrid the Bethesda titles are. Which led to Outer Worlds. I hope that franchise will one...

Am I in the minority when I say I'm not bothered by Super Mutants in Fallout 3?

Right, so those elements served a purpose to get those new fans to engage with series Fallout stuff. They took it east coast because Bethesda is on the East Coast. I think the East Coast vs West Coast divide makes Fallout as a series quite interesting. And as I said, I think the change of venue...

Am I in the minority when I say I'm not bothered by Super Mutants in Fallout 3?

Oh for sure, it makes sense but I think its interesting to explore other places in Fallout, especially areas with such important significance to the fallout universe. Although the obvious problem with that is that its a stretch to push any of the West Coast storyline/characters further. That is...

Possibility of Obisidian working on Fallout...

Isn't that what they effectively had to do for New Vegas? They had to choose a specific ending of FO2 to go off of. Bethesda basically canonized certain endings to FO3 and FO4 with their DLCs. I don't forsee that to be a problem.

Am I in the minority when I say I'm not bothered by Super Mutants in Fallout 3?

No, but that was never going to be the case. They took the toys and idea they liked and put it somewhere else to have their take on it. Regardless, their audience never saw the stuff that piqued their interest in the original games so it made sense to introduce the new people to those ideas.

Possibility of Obisidian working on Fallout...

Hopefully someone somewhere will change their mind…. Ultimately even if Fallout is part of their DNA…..they’re probably not going to be able to touch it for another decade since their slate is so full. If another studio can put out a new installment basing it off 4 in 2 or so years, that’d be cool.

Am I in the minority when I say I'm not bothered by Super Mutants in Fallout 3?

I don’t mind the super mutants at all. It was a brand new installment in the franchise, you gotta have most of the iconic bits of the franchise. Like caps being the worst offender, but you’re gonna get millions of people exposed to Fallout (pun intended), so it makes sense to reintroduce...

I know this is heresy, but I like Fallout 76

I’m not in love with Fallout 76, but I love the art, the presentation is fantastic. I know the omission of NPCs was something HAAATTTEEDD by a lot of people, but I’ve actually enjoyed how creative the storytelling is without NPCs in the pre-Wastelanders quests I’ve been doing.

Why Robert Edwin House is the best hope for the wasteland and humanity

I don’t see how House will benefit the people of New Vegas. Looking at Freeside, you see exactly where his priorities are. Yeah, he’ll be great for business, but I don’t think he’s going to deliver prosperity or services to the average person. Yeah, the NCR has problems, but it also has avenues...

The future of Fallout - IGN Interview with Todd Howard

If Bethesda and Obsidian are too busy on their projects for a new Fallout, it’d be cool to see Inxile try it like Wasteland 3. It’d be kinda confusing if we had 2 completely different style of Fallout RPGs (crpg vs wrpg), so I would rename a hypothetical tactical CRPG by Inxile as Fallout Tactics.

    Fallout TV Series Begins Production

I completely agree with you, however I’d imagine they’d want to stick to the vibe and tone of 3. They probably want lots of power armor and blowing up mutants with 50s tunes in the background. I think it HAS to suck given what these producers think is the recognizable parts of the source...
