I'm going to second whoever suggested armed assault. It's a great looking game, and a lot better than most tactical shooters. Also its predeseccor, Operation: Flashpoint, with some of the recent mods can also really stress a system.

I never really played any of Blizzards games, except for warcraft II back when I was still young and fairly recently, Diablo II, which I must say I feel stupid for not buying sooner.. worth every penny! I'm definitly looking forward to seeing what Blizzard is working on..

If he likes Quake, FEAR and wolfenstein and so on.. I'd suggest The Unreal Anthology pack, it comes with every unreal game made to date (Unreal +expansion, Unreal Tournament, Unreal 2, Unreal Tournament 2004) and it's pretty much the same style.. The AI can pose quite a challenge on godlike.. ;)...
