    Vanished into thin air!

I don't want elements from FO1 and 2 to be reused. That's the point. It's the east coast, it shouldn't seem like the west coast.

    Vanished into thin air!

It was largely a royal 'you'. We get so many people here who irrationally accuse us of hating FO3 purely because Bethesda made it or something. But yes, feel free to love FO3, that's your choice to do. As long as you don't join the ranks of those who tell us we're somehow wrong for disliking it...

    Gun "nut" they are not.

It doesn't produce water. It's a control component for a water purification system. And the only computer I can think of left neglected yet remaining functional was the one in the West-Tek facility which was close to a closed environment at that floor. Internally consistent is easily...

    Vanished into thin air!

New factions. Ones that could feasibly have come into existence in the DC area in the 200 years since the war. Not just the same groups we had in California, despite the logistical nightmare involved in them getting there, not to mention the change of the BoS to an order of fantasy knights with...

    Gun "nut" they are not.

Deathclaw, Centaurs, and Ghouls are all internally consistent. Mutation is an important part of the Fallout canon, and the way they come into being is rational and makes sense when compared to other parts of the setting. Many things in FO3 are not internally consistent. To paraphrase Todd...

    Vanished into thin air!

The problem is excessive recycling of the old elements. There's nothing new in FO3, despite being on the other side of the continent. It's like DC lived in a vacuum until the BoS and the Enclave apparently made the trek across the wastes.

    Vanished into thin air!

*Settlements that make sense. *Tribals. *Farming. *Weapons worth a damn. *Decent graphics. (Don't tell me FO3's graphics are good, soup textures have been inexcusable since Doom 3)

Fallout 3 wins RPG of the Year at Gamespot

I don't think it's a testament to the lack of competition. It's a testament to how a game is judged by how well it's marketed, not how good the game is.

    Gun "nut" they are not.

You say suspension of disbelief without considering that disbelief can only be suspended as long as the universe is internally consistent and verisimilitude is maintained.

    Role of GECK

Vault City is what a GECK results in. It's basically just a box of goodies for setting up a starting surface colony. And in FO2 it was shown that the GECK wouldn't've been enough for Arroyo.

    Fallout 3 reviews round-up #77

I actually like the idea of limited inventory space, but not in the Diablo method. I felt STALKER did it best by having an inventory that was absolutely massive, but restricted you by weight. I would've preferred it to be less of a binary system though (overloaded/not overloaded), and had...

Bethesda Vs. Black Isle: Sex, Brats, And Addiction

Hey, I could do a reverse mackre! Quick, I need Bethesda to hire me for the Japanese localisation. I could rewrite the entire plot to something not shit and they'd be none the wiser!

    Will Fallout 3 be remembered?

Patton's got it. What makes people remember a game is 'personality', so to speak. Not sales, certainly. Let's think about the games that even today, if you bring them up, people get all wispy-eyed: Deus Ex. System Shock 2. Planescape Torment. Fallout & 2. Diablo & 2. Each of these...

    Jeff Gardiner on DLC again

How is it Premium? Premium implies it's better than other DLC. Adding an adjective doesn't make the adjective apply. I hate marketers. I really do.

The P is "Purchasable", or "Purchased". As opposed to "Free".

    Fallout 3 reviews round-up #77

Well, those garbage items have uses, they're just shit ones. I think you can give clipboards to someone or whatever, kinda like the nuka-cola collector. MMO grind anyone? Failing that, just jam them into the Rock-it Launcher. Because firing random garbage and killing Deathclaws with a coffee...

    Jeff Gardiner on DLC again

Heck, Fallout 1 and 2 STILL sell well, courtesy of gog.com . And this statement of "the market has moved on, no-one plays turn-based (or even RTwP) games anymore, they won't make them, get over it" is disingenious and basically groupthink. They won't make them because you believe their...

    Jeff Gardiner on DLC again

It's a pivotal moment that has nothing to do with the games though. It's backstory. But Anchorage is right up the alley for Bethsoft, it's a valid reason to make a shooter with stats!

Cool! Tesla tanks in Fallout! Cross promotion with Red Alert

Except it's about as immersive as a rain puddle and not consistent with the world it's based upon. And I rate the games by how much I enjoyed playing them, not how many times they broke the 4th wall with an in-joke. Fallout 2: Still installed. Still play. Still enjoy and find interesting...

Cool! Tesla tanks in Fallout! Cross promotion with Red Alert

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and of opinion, but in my mind, Bethesda have never been a great developer. Passable once upon a time, Arena and Daggerfall, but certainly have fallen below mediocre these days. Their games are soulless husks, the formula is there, but they lack in spirit...
