Stat building elements do not make a game an RPG

What choices do you mean? I didn't notice anything. I played it on the hardest difficulty using a mods that make the game more realistic, and I could take out entire military bases by myself without too much trouble.

Torchlight - digital download Diablo clone by Diablo devs

I didn't pick this name for no reason, you know. Some tutorial popup must have explained that but I forgot. There doesn't seem to be an in-game key reference anywhere.

If there's one thing that needs adjusting, it's the controls. It simply won't do that attacking and moving are done with the same mouse button, because every time you miss your click you start moving instead. It's not possible to customize the controls in any way.

Stat building elements do not make a game an RPG

I don't see why a CRPG would need to have such a system.

Stat building elements do not make a game an RPG

I don't mean that the rules have to come from PnP, I mean the rules are explicit and clearly laid out. There is no "rule system" in a game like Half-Life 2 the same way there is in BG II.

Yes, but I mean something like D&D or SPECIAL. STALKER has its rules too, like any other game, but they're "invisible."

Stat building elements do not make a game an RPG

JRPGs, despite their name, are actually not RPGs. Probably there are exceptions, but that's the rule of thumb. Here's a definition of a roleplaying game: Furthermore: That is how I define a roleplaying game. Of course, virtually any CRPG will fall short of the ideal because of the...

General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

I bought it from Steam too, around the same time you did. I played it back when it was released, but my system wasn't good and I didn't like the game too much. This time I liked it more, though I did play it with Stalker Complete 2009 which enhances the graphics and does some other stuff. Now I...

    the US and religious fundamentalism

People who fabricate instances of racism are like the boy who cried wolf.

    the US and religious fundamentalism

Since when? Christianity continues to decline in Europe, whereas Islam's influence keeps increasing. If racism really was a problem, people wouldn't feel the need to constantly fabricate and make up instances of "racism" (the Resident Evil 5 debacle for example). And this statement would...

    the US and religious fundamentalism

You must be confusing the US with the Islamic world. Lots of countries were underdeveloped 50 years ago, but that doesn't mean they're all full of insane fanatics. Saudi Arabia isn't the way it is because 50 years ago they were goat farmers or whatever.

Sexist or not? The Naughty Witcher

Which is true. Perhaps you made the mistake of taking my statement absolutely 100% literally.

Sexist or not? The Naughty Witcher

I'm not. I never hear about anyone giving two shits about the aforementioned issues, yet people can't stop ranting about glass ceilings and other shadowy conspiracies. Is it supposed to be news to me? I don't understand what you're talking about.

Sexist or not? The Naughty Witcher

Again, if all feminists can do is bitch about trivial and imaginary issues, it's clear that no real problems exist. At least as far as they're concerned. Problems like forced marriages, genital mutilation and honor killings receive little if any attention from feminists, since going after...

Best looking mod I have seen in ages

Nobody claimed the story is supposed to be deep and throught-provoking, and it isn't the game's fault if you couldn't understand it. They released commercial, stand-alone versions of CS and DoD, but anyone who had Half-Life could and still can freely play them. I was quite underwhelmed by...

General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

I started Crysis on the hardest difficulty and ran into no problems (other than the right kind of problems, i.e. gameplay challenges). This isn't about the level of difficulty, this is about poor game design. Er, no it doesn't. Not all games have the same damage system. Opponents in R6 Vegas...

Sexist or not? The Naughty Witcher

The wage gap is often presented that way, even if in reality the gap is a result of women working less. I'm sure there are genuine wage gaps out there, but too often they're just made up by feminists. The glass ceiling is a mythical excuse, much like The Man that's oppressing black people...

10 most diappointing games of this year

I was impressed by the demo of Mirror's Edge, and I'm getting it for the PC next year. The problems that people are talking about don't sound that bad, and in some reviews you can just tell that the reviewer was struggling to find something to complain about. It's odd that the list doesn't...

Sexist or not? The Naughty Witcher

It has also been proven that this wage gap is often a result of women not working as much as men and not having as much interest in a high wage. So what does any of that have to do with Western feminism in the 21st century? Unless they intend to build a time machine to alter the past, you are...

General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

I really didn't find any ammo. When I got to the second outpost (where you have to rescue some guy) all I had was an assault rifle with one magazine and a pistol with four bullets. Picking up weapons from dead enemies yielded almost no ammo. Aiming for the head really shouldn't be necessary when...
