    Stupid fallout experiences...

I attacked and killed Set with just a shotgun and leather armor. Needless to say I shortly discovered other enemies around I hadn't before and made a strategic retreat. Set was dead though, so I was happy.

Why do so many people here think First Person excludes RPG?

Ashmo - I agree, a First Person Turn-based game would be awkward, which is why I'm glad Fallout 3 isn't that. However, I would like to try one if you know any on-hand. I'm curious on how it plays at least. And I realize they're not new - they just don't feel like the Iso Hard RPGs though...

Why do so many people here think First Person excludes RPG?

My beef isn't really with the realism, it's with the fact that "True RPGs have to be isometric" and so forth. My mentionings with problems of Fallout 1/2 was simply to point out things it had issues with that were similar to what someone pointed out in Fallout 3 and that they do not govern the...

Why do so many people here think First Person excludes RPG?

I apologize, I didn't clarify myself enough. The things I mentioned were things I noticed in Fallout 1 and 2. I'm mainly pointing them out to prove a point: It isn't the view that causes the problems, it's the game mechanics themselves. I never heard of that game though, I'll have to check it...

Why do so many people here think First Person excludes RPG?

Third Person or Isometric CRPG have nothing to do with how much detail can be seen. The older the game is, the less detail you see. You could more or less have a fully detailed isometric game where you can see everything that a character could see, even the sky if rotational cameras are in it...

The real issues with Fallout 3, in my opinion.

Aye, Fallout 1 and 2 were full of accents, many of which had no real explanation. Take...Arroyo for example. It's a tribe, so tribal accent makes sense....throw in that it's decended from Vault Dwellers who left with Fallout 1's hero and the accent makes absolutely no sense.

    Impressions thread for positive impressions

Actually it looks like you were supposed to do another mission for her originally to create the Survival Guide copies. In the GECK you can view a few models of a working printing press with Wasteland Survival Guides on the conveyer belt.

I think Fallout 3 is better than Fallout 2

I can agree that the majority of Bethesda's voice actors are mediocre, sure, however that's a...well, weighted comparison. Fallout 1 and 2 only voiced a few characters and did so very well with most of them. Fallout 3 voiced all with generics and stuck a few individuals with unique voice actors...

Why do so many people here think First Person excludes RPG?

Ah, I noticed that. I thought it was a problem with one of the robot mods I was using.

    Close combat chars?

Sure it is. Shishkebab is the major weapon of choice.. it'll be harder with super mutants and the like though, so you probably would want to go with something like a super sledge with them. Flamethrowers would be the biggest problem. Enjoy the fire ants.

Why do so many people here think First Person excludes RPG?

*blinks* I think you missed a good chunk of the game's quests then. Many quests in Fallout 3 actually -don't- require combat, much like in Fallout 1 and 2. Tenpenny tower quest... you have the choice to kill one group, let the other kill the other, or diplomatically convince everyone in the...

    How would you do SPECIAL?

I always thought that about the Outdoorsman skill. It's sort of useless if you raise your luck high enough at the beginning of the game, after all and all it affects is world-travel. Less encounters crossing the map means less oppertunities for stuff to gaine exp. from and to sell, afterall...

Why do so many people here think First Person excludes RPG?

Very true. Comparing it to Fallout 2, it's not as good an RPG. Comparing it to Bethesda's previous game Oblivion? I find it better in some areas, worse in others. It's a better attempt at a freeform game I've seen in ages, but it's not the best. To me, it's an 8/10. Fallout 1 and 2 would be like...

    How would you do SPECIAL?

If anything divide it into Small and Big guns. Energy weapons should require the science skill when it comes to chances for it to backfire and the like. I'd prefer that than big, small, and big/small energy weapons.

Why do so many people here think First Person excludes RPG?

I agree, Final Fantasy 6 and 7 were the high points. And yes, I do think Fallout 3 is more of an RPG. Stats govern more in Fallout 3 then in Final Fantasy after all. To me, if KOTOR can be considered an RPG, so can Fallout 3 :) That's my opinion though.

    How would you do SPECIAL?

Eh, if you throw in Strength requirements and the like for each gun, it's okay. And since energy weapons are just small and big guns with a pulse... personally, it never made sense. If anything, Small energy weapons and big energy weapons would've been more realistic. I'd go with Van Buren's...

    Ideas for new Fallout threats

This was something someone pmed me about, so here's my idea for a new threat! Lets start off with setting: West Coast, post-Fallout 2. In Fallout 2 you saw bitter tensions and more talked about in the Van Buren concept. The world is much more developed here, but still reconstructing itself...

Why do so many people here think First Person excludes RPG?

I'm not saying removing statistics completely, I'm sayng letting you determine the success-failure rather than a random dice. Dices simplify things, sure, but frankly they're overdone. I'd rather see a hybrid between "Do it yourself" and "Let the computer figure it out" - The balance isn't what...
