No, they aren't. Big guns was taken apart and it was worked so that; 1) IF it shoots bullets it's a firearm 2) If it shoots deathlasers it's an energy weapon 3) If it goes BOOM it's an explosive.

They reworked the skills and some weapons/availability so that if you want to tag Energy weapons or explosives and NOT use firearms you can do so from the get-go, with lower grade, non ridiculous guns. Seriously, if tagged Big Guns in Fallout, how long did it take you to get your hands on a...

It wouldn't be too big a deal if it was attached to the pipboy but I don't see why you can't have it on the hud. If you're going by shit you'd have to equip to use, you might as well make a blank hud and force you to check everything in the pipboy
