How are some people maxing out ALL skills?

I agree with you, a lot of the skills are 'just nice to have' and you can become proficient in too many skills. The point I'm arguing is, though, in order to max every skill it takes more forethought and metagaming, or at least the same amount, as it does to break Fallout 2 with items. I'd...

    Impressions thread for negative impressions

Oh, I didn't know asking what color other peoples' HUDs were meant that I "didn't really understand how ingenious Fallout 1 & 2 were." Glad I didn't do that. Wait, how does that have any bearing at all on what they think about FO 1/2? Honestly, why is your opinion about what is important any...

How are some people maxing out ALL skills?

Uhh, no it isn't. It's very difficult to find every bobblehead without resorting to a guide, and the careful planning required to maximize your skill points throughout the game requires forethought as well. That is, of course, not including finding all the books requires, which is a considerable...

    Impressions thread for positive impressions

Daggerfall didn't look that great. In fact, it looked pretty bad. The 2D Fallout had was much better. Robinson's Requiem: Also not very good. I can't remember DBtS ever having large open spaces that you could see straight out to, and, while it's been a while since I last played HL1, I also...

How are some people maxing out ALL skills?

Yeah, but you could get power armor at what, level 2 in the second Fallout? And then you go pickpocket a Bozar and you win the game. That's breaking the game pretty bad via metagaming, and it can be accomplished considerably faster than can maxing all the skills.

    Impressions thread for positive impressions

Or, 1) New poster comes in and bashes FO3 at every turn, sometimes justified but a lot of the time not. 2) New poster is agreed with, many times by people who haven't even played the game yet 3) Someone comes in, pokes holes in his argument 4) Massive argument ensues 5) Rinse and repeat...

    Impressions thread for positive impressions

I don't think he's faulting you, but NMA is ferociously intolerant of FO3. I think some of that is justified, but in many cases it's a kneejerk reaction to FO3 having been made by Bethesda. Anyways, I'm enjoying FO3 a lot too (yes, I've played the earlier ones as well and enjoyed them...

Well, the Vault 101 jumpsuit gives you +2 to small weapons IIRC, which is rather strange.

V.A.T.S. is NOT a combat system

I was saying that to prove a point. I can tell you're brilliant with this conversation stuff.

How are some people maxing out ALL skills?

Don't forget about bobbleheads as well. But frankly, the claims that you can easily max out every skill are ridiculous. If you plan it perfectly, and go hunting for almost every book, you may be able to pull it off. Maybe. And if you're playing the game that way, you really don't have a right...

Funny and Stark Example of Beth's Laziness...

I can't remember what you say to her. If it's specific to being her, then yes, it's weird. But that's not my point, I'm not trying to justify everything. I'm just saying that giving "I'm looking for my dad" as a reason for why you're visiting Rivet City is not only NOT lazy, but it makes...

I *know* WHY Fallout 3 sucks! (descriptions)

Re: Descriptions and other FO3 fallouts It's actually almost the opposite for me. In Fallout 3, you can use the magnum, but the ammo is rare enough that you can't rely solely on it. The hunting rifle, while not the most powerful gun, has a good balance between accuracy, damage, and ammo...

V.A.T.S. is NOT a combat system

So does using smart tactics count as cheating because it gives you an advantage? VATs in neither a computer application, password, or disallowed technique. I don't see how it constitutes cheating.

Hahaha, very true. I never thought about it that way before.

Funny and Stark Example of Beth's Laziness...

The guard asks you what your business is in Rivet City. If your character is looking for his dad, which is certainly a possibility, they give you the option to say you're there to look for him. It's a reason to be in Rivet City, after all. Who knows where he may be? Just because it's an...

Funny and Stark Example of Beth's Laziness...

But having the option to say you're looking for your dad isn't lazy. Plenty of people left the vault to find their dad. So I really can't see how an additional option that happens to be related to the main plot of the game is lazy on Bethesda's part.

Funny and Stark Example of Beth's Laziness...

You left the vault to find your dad in the first place. I can't see how having the option to state that as your reason for coming to Rivet City is in any way strange.

What did Bethesda actually do better than Black Isle?

And you see dead Chinese soldiers fairly often. They clearly invaded. It's not strange that they may have brought their ceremonial swords with them. On the one hand, I agree with you that having a US ceremonial sword would be nice, but honestly there's a lot of melee weapons in the game...

I finished Fallout 3, these are my thoughts (Spoiler full)

I wish that people who write these rant-reviews would at least read the others first so they can try to cover points the others don't. Instead, we get rant after rant on the same topics over and over, and each time they ignore the cases presented against the same points argued in the other...
