Things that Fallout 3 does RIGHT

Whhaaaaaat? The Protectrons look TOTALLY 1950's sci-fi to me. In fact, I think they nailed all the robots really well. I love the lines Mr. Gutsy throws at you during the fight. Basically a ton of funny gung-ho anti-communism stuff. Also, about the Chinese swords. I don't know about their...

    Oasis

I liked that quest line, because if you fulfilled Harold's wish of killing him, you hurt the child (not physically, obviously). I ended up not doing the slow or quicken, does Harold end up happy with the results of either one? Also, the BoS guy joins up because they saved his life. Y'know...

    Slaver Troubles

Thank you, I'll try that right away. I did try waiting 3 days and it had no effect. EDIT: Well, it seems like it would work but I can't get the Faction parameter no matter what I try. I just went through a list of all console commands with 'get' or 'faction' in the name and neither of them...

    Slaver Troubles

So, my character is a happy slaver, having captured a bunch of people and sent them off to be good little slaves. The slavers respect me, etc. The biggest problem was that I had only one slave collar at a time - it was very annoying. I travel back to Paradise Falls and lo and behold, Grunge...

What did Bethesda actually do better than Black Isle?

Uhh, don't some officers in the US military carry ceremonial swords? I don't see how it's a stretch that Chinese officers might do the same in this alternate universe. That is, if they don't already. And I REALLY can't see how an additional weapon is "blatant laziness" on the part of the...

    The First Fallout Expansion

It seems more likely to me that they'll do what they did with Oblivion in the beginning, that is to say downloadable content. I could see an alternate storyline and increased level cap in an expansion, though. The real changes will come in mods, however.

    Leveling guide

Yes, some chests and computers require 100 skill to access. I can't think of any time they hold anything vital, it's usually just a few nice trinkets, like ammo or stimpacks or something.

What did Bethesda actually do better than Black Isle?

I don't understand why people expect melee to be as effective as guns in combat. How is that in any way a reflection of an even remotely realistic setting?

    Impressions thread for negative impressions

The problem I see is that far too many people define the term RPG as "My character has stats, and an inventory." That's not what an RPG is. And RPG is a Role Playing Game - that is, you play the role of someone. One could nitpick then that any game is an RPG, because you're always the role of...

Thoughts on FO3 (Spoilers)(32hours played so far)(LONG POST)

Well, you said you enjoyed most of your experience in the DC wastes. If that's not a good reason to rent it (especially for free!) I don't know what is.

    Improvements over Oblivion

I'm surprised you don't have the improved enemy scaling on that list. But it's not "obviously Oblivion with Guns." EDIT: I also like the lockpick minigame.

My personal take on Fallout 3

So it's not just the perspective, but it also needs to be turned based to be Fallout? That seems like a pretty shallow view of the Fallout setting. It's a big departure from the first two games, but I think it captures the setting of Fallout very well. Same goes for the above poster. It's...

My personal take on Fallout 3

Maybe he was a good talker? After all: They didn't travel. I much prefer them to gold coins. They're just so distinctly Fallout. I don't understand why everyone keeps getting stuck on the perspective. Were Fallout 1 and 2 really all about the perspective to you?

    Fallout 3 Realism Overhaul

Doesn't it take something like 300 rads for the first level of radiation poisoning? How many people are you eating!?

What did Bethesda actually do better than Black Isle?

You're right. Mimezu's texture pack is exceptionally good, I'll be downloading that one for sure. Thanks.

What did Bethesda actually do better than Black Isle?

Huh, same here. I guess I'll have to go take another look at the textures then.

What did Bethesda actually do better than Black Isle?

It's possible I just haven't been paying enough attention to the textures to notice they're blurry, but what settings are you guys at? From what I can remember off the top of my head, they seem fine to me for the most part.

What did Bethesda actually do better than Black Isle?

The only place I really noticed blurriness is on the gravestones. I've noticed there are some texture mods out already, so even if the mod tools are never released (god forbid) we'll probably be seeing some full texture overhauls sooner or later.

    Second thoughts....

Look though various different sources, not just here on NMA. NMA is... well, pretty kneejerk in it's hatred of FO3. The best thing to do is to gather as many different sources of information (NMA included, of course) and synthesize a balanced review out of all of them. Personally, I'm...
