    Deepwater Horizon/BP Oil Spill

We've all been watching the enormous oil disaster that unfolding off of Louisiana. This thing has a huge variety of repercussions and implications, so here is a list of the things it will affect. It is by no means inclusive. US Energy Policy. A Big Deal was made earlier in Obama's first...

    NFL 2010

Are we talking about your average Vikings fan or the media? Most fans that I know are less concerned about Fav-rah and more concerned that the Vikings get to win again. Many fans I know don't really like that we are using arch-nemesis and all-around mediaboy Favre, but they like winning more...

    NFL 2010

As a Minnesotan and reformed Favre (I prefer to call him Fav-Rah!) fan I can understand the general hating. I would prefer he didn't spurn the Packers, and I'd prefer he didn't cause so much wasted ink in the national press. But I can live with that, as I can live with the general animosity of...

I was a bit dazed by the Vikings pick strategy. Clearly Favre is coming back for another year of punishment, but then what? And gods forbid the man is injured and we have to rely on Tarvaris Jackson. oh well, I don't really care, but it goes to show that neither the pundits nor armchair...

America proves itself to belong to the 3rd World. Again.

The underlying issue was that the law was overly broad. If it is rewritten to better target the intent of the law then everyone can support that; it was just a bad piece of legislation in the first place and infringed on other types of speech.

    NFL 2010

Rams picked QB Sam Bradford in the 1st round. The Vikings'll get Clausen. But in general the plan as I understand it was to give up a 'bad' first round pick due to position to pick up an additional overall pick, and 'better' placement in the second round.

Scuttlebutt in the Twin Cities is that the Vikings'll pick up Clausen to replace Favre after next season. Meh, anythings better than Tarvaris Jackson!

    ChickenCare

Irony at it's finest: The far right-wing tea partying anti-healthcare reform socialist-hating Republican in her primary bid (for John McCain's Senate seat no less) is proposing using a bartering system to negotiate health care prices in a method just like Europeans use in rural...

    ChickenCare

So, this is a parody of a politician in Arizona who is suggesting that people barter with their doctors to bring down the cost of healthcare, trading chickens and the like for heart surgery or general medical care. This is the level of intellectual discourse in America today. Proud to be one...

Mythbusters discovers that dimples on your car saves fuel

I work at a medical device firm in the Twin Cities, doing regulatory affairs stuff. I enjoy it much more than I probably should, I like the paperwork and protocol; does that make me a bad person?

Mythbusters discovers that dimples on your car saves fuel

Many car bodies are plastic now. Setting aside aesthetic and tradition concerns changing the plastic mould to include dimples doesn't sound technically challenging to me. Altering the underlying body to accommodate the dimples may prove challenging, but hardly insurmountable. And before we...

    What would Jesus buy?

Smart people tend to get laid more easily..

No, this was your actual claim: 'So-called' is a device for belittling a belief system, just like if I were to say 'so-called religion'. Used it in that context and the breadth of your statement is more ominous. You are stating that science is the new religion, even though science can...
