    Bethesda's Fan Interview #2

I think you can qualify someone like Miyamoto as having grand artistic vision. I think it's just that because his games have spawned countless spin-offs, people forget how innovative he's really been. I think people are also looking to compare videogaming quite naturally to the only other...

    Bethesda's Fan Interview #2

The Soylent Green reference quote is leagues ahead of "Gah! What the f*#$ are you?". You're comparing a sly pop-culture reference with a very knowing tone, to a positively sophomoric attempt at humour.

    Bethesda's Fan Interview #2

Excuse my French, but Todd's a fucking idiot. There was nothing in that interview that brightened my outlook on Fallout 3. Todd's arguments and excuses were incompetent at best. They honestly couldn't see a huge difference between Traits and Perks? Harshness and maturity hasn't been messed...

Emil speaks on Fallout 3 combat, armor and more.

I think we all know deep down that the only reason weapon durability is in the game is because Bethesda couldn't figure out how to remove the system from the Oblivion engine. Either that or they simply couldn't be arsed.

RM Milner on Fallout fans again

Reading this discussion provoked a thought from me regarding Bethesda's Fallout 3 development attitude that I hadn't thought of before. I'm thinking that the reason they're sticking to "What they do best" has got very real technological time constraints. To be precise, they have to get...

    Ubidays Fallout 3 interview

Dude, take the hot blonde chick out of your sig. I mean to read your posts, I honestly do, but I just get distracted by hot... blonde... chick... Ahem, anyhoo, regarding the news piece, not much that hasn't been said before, although I'm interpreting it as Bethesda abusing the Perception...

    New CD-Action Preview

Ye gods this depresses me if I think about it too long. I should have the utmost respect for this guy given his history. I should trust every decision he makes. The Thief games are solid gold classics, almost perfect in their focus and implementation. To have worked on those titles, and at...

    Fan interview polls question

I still don't get why they can't use the gameplay mechanism employed by the previous Fallouts and Arcanum: if you kill a "plot essential" character, you find an object on their corpse that helps move the game forward. I'm replaying Arcanum at the moment, and while the theory sounds like it...

    Is Fallout 3 Too Complex?

Also, I find it funny whenever Pete or Emil claims that Fallout obviously influenced Bioshock when Ken Levine himself has never claimed as such when stating the game's influences. In fact, he's almost gone as far as denying any connection between the two.

Tyranids vs. Zerg: Whoever wins, we lose...

Mikael, this is a horrible generalisation and could just as easily be applied to Warcraft & Starcraft. To address the idea that one rips off the other, the only honest similarity I see between Starcraft and WH40K is power armour (that and the fact that their both games about different races...

    Eurogamer previews Fallout 3

Here's the Link to Kieron's defense of Bioshock in the face of the backlash. As for the backlash itself, have a tool around over on TTLG. I think it's pretty obvious that the guys over there didn't appreciate Bioshock, seeing it as a dumbed down successor to System Shock 2. They're also...

    Eurogamer previews Fallout 3

Kieron's good people, but even he has stains on his career; he's responsible for the PC Gamer UK review of Deus Ex Invisible War, where he scored it at 92%. He also believes that Bioshock is a truly great game and has been openly critical of the recent community backlash surrounding it. If...

    Emil is back

    OXM article excerpts

I'm sure I remember a developer saying that there was going to be nothing to stop players creating a save just before finalising character creation. To me that implies that they won't just let you skip to a character sheet instead of playing the whole introductory segment.

    OXM article excerpts

So why not allow repeat offenders to simply bypass that section instead of making them create a save themselves at that point? Again, lazy, sloppy game design.

    OXM article excerpts

It's not so much about skipping the tutorial, rather it's about clunky and inefficient interface design. With the original Fallout character sheet, you can see your skills change as you alter your statistics all on one screen. With this, there will be a lot of unnecessary flicking back and...

    OXM article excerpts

This picture: ...irritates me from a user interface design point of view. This illustrates that while choosing your stats, you'll only be able to see one at a time, and you won't be able to see the effect these stats have on your skills. These guys can make the pretty but know...

Unconfirmed information from the OXM coverage

Thing is, I don't think I've played a single game where it hasn't been anything but a pain. I even have trouble accepting it as a mechanic in Dead Rising, one of my all-time favourites, but at least there it's for balance. I've never discovered a neatly balanced gaming system in a single...

Unconfirmed information from the OXM coverage

I absolutely loath weapon wear-and-tear systems in games. This also implies that you won't be able to have a favourite weapon that you use for the majority of the game such as the .223 pistol. Nothing beats a good groin shot with the .223 :(
