    In reply to Emil

Still, I wonder if this is the start of something bigger? Could Fallout 3 be experiencing a media backlash such as Bioshock experienced? Of course, the difference here is that the game hasn't even been released yet. Maybe the industry is finally wising up to the marketing.

    Emil is the best

Yeah, I was quite surprised to see a dig at the community there to be honest. Mind you, I was also quite surprised to see no mention of John Carmack in the top 100 at all, especially given the on-going development of Rage. Oh, and :p to you too BN ;)

General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

At the moment, replaying Silent Storm. A Fallout using this as the combat engine would have been so cool :(

Fallout in #3 most meaningful quotes

Nothing from the Marathon Trilogy :( Durandal had some class lines: If you didn't already know, the whole Marathon Trilogy story can be seen here. As well as more flippant stuff like the quote above, there's a lot of really heady stuff in there if you can be bothered to dig through it.

General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Currently playing: Zack & Wiki on the Wii, a Capcom point and click adventure. Very Japanese, but very good so far. Conan on the 360, as voiced by Ron Perlman (and Claudia Black). No-brainer hack and slash action, but does it very well. Irritating boss fights though. Also, RezHD on the...

    My father is getting old....

I'd go out on a limb here, but given both companies' past releases (Blizzard in particular), I'm guessing they'll try to ensure that as many people as possible will be able to play their games. Therefore, expect a high level of scalability, and in SC2's case in particular, surprisingly low...

General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance & Sims 2. The Sup Com follow-up is awesome. Streamlined interface, more units and right from the start you get access to the full tech tree. I swear they've also added more low-end to the sound effects too, as everything sounds a lot chunkier. It's also...

Which of these should i play?

And save Iron Storm for a rainy day. It hasn't aged well aesthetically (although the design is still unique and interesting), and it can be brutally unforgiving, as well as having less than spectacular AI. Yet it has an outstanding story, and when it gets it right, it's utterly fantastic.

    Kieron Gillen on Fallout 3

Kieron's a nice guy, but his opinions are a bit iffy to say the least. One of his reviews was responsible for opening my eyes to the infiltration of game journalism by hype and marketing. I'm talking about Deus Ex: Invisible War, a game universally derided by the gaming community as being a...

Fallout on IGN's Top 100 Games List for 2007

Seriously, Quake 2 but no original Quake? Are they forgetting it's influence on online gaming? Online gaming wouldn't be what it is today if it hadn't been for original Quake.

    playstation 3 advice

Brazil's a bit awkward when it comes to broadcast standards I seem to remember. I think they use a weird standard that is a mix of PAL and NTSC ones. Here's a wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAL-M_(television) Now what that means for your brother-in-law may very well depend on...

    The Witcher Thread

Just completed it, and while I don't think I'll be doing an immediate repeat playthrough, I know I will be playing it again at some point just to try different paths and see what effect they have on the ending. There's a LOT of choice here with a LOT of consequences. Overall, poor load &...

General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Still can't tear myself away from the TF2 beta. A couple of the maps are absolute tripe, coming down to stalemates or scout rushes most of the time (Granary & Well), and 2fort needs some tweaking considering it was originally made with grenades in mind, but other than that, it's 24 carat gold.

Emil Pagiarulo on quest structures & NPCs in Fallout 3

Re: Emil Pagiarulo on quest structures & NPCs in Fallout This bit really worries me. It stinks of Morrowind, where sure, you could kill important NPCs, but if you did so, you couldn't complete the game. I still think that they're not really getting it.

    Quake Wars

I think id went wrong when they took the original Return to Castle Wolfenstein multiplayer away from nerve software and gave it to Splash Damage. Where nerve had taken the best parts of Fortress and refined them into something better, SD undid all of nerve's good work and started adding crap...

Just to further report, it gets better. It's been a long time since a game's actually made me really laugh out loud. This isn't just knowing chuckles, this is the same sort of laughs you get when watching a damn good comedian. I was bursting out laughing all night last night while playing...

    Team Fortress 2 advertisements

I've just been playing the beta, and I can report that it's great fun. It's significantly different to past incarnations of Fortress; there's no grenades, and the controls have been streamlined and simplified. Note that by simplified, I don't mean dumbed-down. Anyone who's played previous...
