i can agree that GTA ran pretty good in singleplayer - however the netcode was horrible as far as i remember, even with 100mbit lan and the gigahertzy machines of today it still feels "un-smooth". one game that didn't run well at all was ultima 8 - pagan. ooh, that was a craving game! :)
