ISO 2D games can look impressive too!

The second video is jaw-dropping. I wish Age of Decadence could have used a 2D renderer like that one. Interesting perspective*. I agree. * Heh, "perspective".

Space Rangers 2? Freelancer? X series? Privateer series? Independence War series? <strike>Universal Combat?</strike>

Getting started with LaTeX and a couple of Ubuntu questions

Fixed. ( :smug: ) Also, I second Sander's recommendation for Windows (MiKTeX, that is). I use it in combination with LEd, a free LaTeX editor. But if you also want to use EPS figures (a requirement for DVI output, but not for PDF), prepare for some more pain-in-the-ass installation...

    Favourite Genre

I'm a huge Fallout fan with over 10,000 posts on a CRPG fansite, so clearly my favorite genre has to be sport sims.

    Looking Back

Some interesting games at that site, though I'm surprised they don't list Secret of Vulcan Fury, a Star Trek adventure game that was under development at Interplay, but got canceled in 1999 due to excessive development costs. A shame, really, because the game looked visually very impressive and...

    Bring on Iran

That's true, but my point is, the risk is and will always be miniscule compared to other nuclear-related hazards. For example, accidental launches, erroneous launches based on incorrect or incomplete intelligence, Broken Arrow scenarios and even sabotage by foreign powers have all occured or...

    Bring on Iran

I think the danger of rogue nuclear weapons is overstated. Primary reason: nuclear weapons are extremely well-guarded, even in an unstable shithole like Pakistan. In fact, all factors considered they are probably the best guarded items on planet Earth. In addition to being kept in secure...

    Mount & Blade

Did I play? Hell, yes, I played it. With patches and mods, it's one of the best tactical/action RPGs ever. There is also a multiplayer sequel on the way.

Heavy Rain: What has been Watched can not be Unwatched

Fixed. Also, it's been a long time since I've read CAD on anything resembling a regular basis, though I still drop by when the mood strikes me. Mostly to check out the "sillies", which are amusing on occasion - more amusing than regular CAD ever was, in fact.

Actually this panel marks the moment when CAD started going downhill:

Heavy Rain: What has been Watched can not be Unwatched

What features? You mean the game playing itself for you? Way ahead of you there, buddy, we have that one on PC, too - except we call it "YouTube speedrun" and we don't even need to own the game to use it. EDIT: Breaking news, Tim Buckley actually made a funny comic:

Heavy Rain: What has been Watched can not be Unwatched

Irresponsible parenting. Spoiled, unruly children. Overall decline in mental faculties. Consumerism. Lack of societal cohesion and empathy. Empowerment of women. Badly regulated traffic. Clowns. Oh, and also shitty game design that relies on banal mechanics and cheap eye-candy.

Heavy Rain: What has been Watched can not be Unwatched

This video represents everything that's wrong with the West nowadays. Literally everything.

Dell makes hell of a good hardware

I had issues with hibernation on pretty much every laptop I ever used. My current work laptop (Dell XPS, incidentally) would hibernate without issues for the first year or so that I've had it, but then it spontaneously started rebooting and throwing nonsensical error messages every time I tried...

SSD - to wait or not to wait

If I didn't own an SSD, I'd probably tell you SSDs weren't worth it yet, that performance increase didn't justify the steep price or whatever. But having used an Intel X25-M G2 for more than two months now, I can state with absolute confidence that I can't imagine ever going back to using a HDD...

    JD Salinger is dead

Sad news. The Catcher in the Rye is an important work. I would still punch Holden Caulfield in the ovaries for being a malcontent bitch, though.

    Mass Effect 2

There are quite a few attempts at humor in the Citadel in ME2, and some of them are actually successful. Whoever wrote that area was obviously having fun. My favorite example is when Shepard coerces a storekeeper into giving him a discount by standing outside the store and yelling about their...

    inXile's Heist got cancelled

Saw that one coming. Years ago. inXile have neither the resources nor the experience to pull off a sandbox driving game, let alone one that can compete with GTA. Even if they had magically managed to get something out the door, it would have probably supplanted Driv3r as the Superman 64 of...

    Mass Effect 2

Don't you guys get it? This is a form of DRM. By selling you a crippled game out of the box, EA/BioWare force you to connect to their network to download the missing functionality. Expect more shit of this sort in the future. In fact, expect it to get worse.
