Arcanum - I think I'm doing something wrong!

Ta! I had a couple of questions which I could never be arsed to find the answer to...

    Print screen problem

I use Gadwin's PrintScreen. It's freeware, and can be keybound. It occasionly screws up when trying to screengrab a old game (Fallout 2 and older). Apart from that, the only other problem it has if you're trying to screengrab a video being played with VLC. But that has it's own in built grabber...

    "16+" vs "M"

Just be sure to get the unofficial patches for 1/2 as well. And to remember that Tactics is gonna need a different type of gaming style to really enjoy. If the trilogy pack is the one I have, they will all work fine. As well as any no-cd patches you DL. (If buying it on CD).

    Any *other* interesting RPGs

Hmm... I've gone on this quest myself recently. My preconditions was that it had to be after 1997 and it couldn't be a heavy fantasy type. It seems that this kinda game (not a MMORPG) is rapidly joining the dodo club. The only one that kinda fits the bill is Arcanum. Obligitary wiki...

    Nuclear power

Europe is between a wall and the devil on this one. Our gas and oil reserves are running out, leaving 'ol king coal left. And we all know that's bad for global warming. We don't like the idea of being so dependent on OPEC and/or Russia for our energy supplies. Hydro means flooding, which...

General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Have just ended a binge on VTMB. I did enjoy playing as someone who was insane. Though it has it's problems (too short, not open enough) it was quite different to play. I'm just suprised that nobody's thought of doing a sequel to it.

Lionhead: Pre-owned worse than PC piracy

Let's look at this in the big-picture, yes? Capitalism is simple. Adapt or die. If you are finding lower profit margins, either increase profit (one way or another) or look at your costs. Now, to increase profit would actually be pretty hard, at least in the richest-third of the world...

Bethesda wants Skyrim PC Mods on consoles!

I'll be honest. I'm of two minds over this. The slow convergence between console, TV, stereo and PC as been a-comin' for over a decade now. I seriously suspect that once Microsoft finally give in and produce a full version of IE and Office for their new XBox, the PC will start to wither away...

    Recommend me a game.

I think I've played around 75% of the games listed... Which Europa were you referring to? 2 was just an expanded version of 1 (though I'm not complaining, 2 won my 'fave waste of time' award of '03). 3, though it upped the eyecandy, is still rather plain in comparison to other games. The best...

    Deus Ex

Ah, one of the few games where the sneaky bastard had an edge over what I now call 'CoD' style. That, and you never seemed to have enough ammo. It's so full of useless flavour info I found it quite tasty. I just fear it's gonna be mutated into a cyberpunk CoD. (Note - I don't actually...

    Linux Graphical Environments

Thanks. Gonna DL them all and spend the weekend going through them all.

    Linux Graphical Environments

Well, my home PC's connection is slow as hell, so I'm DL'ing from work (not like they'll find out, as I'm the one employed to snoop of it) What do I DL for offline install? I am tempted just to grab the lot and twiddle around with it untill it works. Installing like this is rather daunting...

2011 Libyan uprising and no fly zone.

They may of voted no, but at least they didn't veto it. I suspect they viewed it too trivial a matter to wind up the rest over. Trivial for them, obviously not for the Libyians. Old Soviet weapons may seem crap when you are a nation armed with Abrams and Stealth Bombers - but they have...

    Linux Graphical Environments

Well, this problem is way out of this forum's remit, but I'm hoping that there is someone here who can answer this. I've been charged to build a PC with the bare amount of cash. I've got all the hardware, and to keep the cost down, I've decided to use Linux as the OS. (It's not like they are...

    Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Well, Oblivion was a bit easier in this respect, 'cos you could use magic while still holding your weapon. Morrowind, you'd have to change your slot from weapon to magic, which could be the end of you if you've gotta guy with a big axe on top of you. And remember, you will need two types of...

Plot-holes and logical inconsistencies of FO3?

Well, if I remember correctly, there was a alien skeleton in the SAD in F2 - so it's not 100% OT. I've got it! Why doesn't somebody do to F3 what Nichols did for Star Wars - Episode I? (The Phantom Edit) Remove all mutants and refrences to FEV, populate the wastes with more small...

Plot-holes and logical inconsistencies of FO3?

It's not just F3 that suffers from this condition - Oblivion does too. More inconsistancies than you could shake a stick at. Obviously they either lost the guy(s)/girl (proberly not, but who knows?) who did this stuff or they simply stopped caring about it so much. I'm still trying to work...

If you were making Fallout 4

Now, that's an idea which a) I had not even thought of and b) sounds good if you could impliment it well. If you brought back the huge wasteland of old, so time is a factor, it could work well. You know, do x and when you pass 6 months later, something has changed, for good or ill. No longer...

Are gaming journalists as ignorant as gamers??

If you have just realised this, then welcome to the cynics club. :) I'm not gonna rehash the stupid things reviewers say...i'm sure there is a blog or two who can do that. What I will try to do is explain the logic and reasons on why it is like it is. Firstly, how hard is it to gain...

General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

I'm currently digging into 'Armed Assault' by Bohemia Interactive, the makers of Operation Flashpoint. I loved Flashpoint because of it's difficulty and realism (no you vs the entire enemy army). Now, ArmA is even harder - possibilly too hard (but isn't war hard?), and it's graphics are more...
