Douglas Goodall: Behind the scenes of Morrowind

I didn't realize RPGCodex was the sole source of information about Oblivion :D

Most of those are pretty old screens, pre E3 of this year. I've seen newer ones on other sites. They had a bad showing at E3 this year, but the game still looks great. Any word on a release date? They looked at least 18 months out at E3 this past May.

French gaming magazine Joystick on Bethesda's Fallout 3

We haven't been exactly idle since the Fallout 3 announcement -- but we are very much focused on Oblivion right now. It'll be a while before you see anything specific about Fallout 3.

Oblivion gets competition... new Might and Magic game

Hey, I gotta have something to do during builds :)

Oblivion gets competition... new Might and Magic game

It looks like a lot of fun, and it is gorgeous, but it's more of a FPS in a fantasy setting than an RPG. I'll definitely be playing this one.

    Smarter Oblivioners?

Nah, our tongues will be tied until the PR gods loosen them regardless :)

    What are you thinking Bethesda?

Believe me, we've never had to come out and ASK for suggestions -- we see plenty of them on the message boards :)

    What are you thinking Bethesda?

Well, we're counting on Oblivion FIRST, not on one more than the other. We'll talk more about Fallout 3 when we're ready to.

    GCA E3 nominations announced

On the other hand, Bethesda is a small, independent developer and publisher not beholden to any of the "big boys" like EA or Microsoft, or even 2K games which is distributing Oblivion (but not publishing it -- they have no say over content or timing of release). Despite our independence and...

No Ron Perlman in Fallout 3?

It's a bit premature to be making any assumptions about voice actors for Fallout 3, or how/whether this strike will affect the game. We're still a long way out, folks. :)

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

I got a chance to spend about 20 minutes playing this game at E3 last week. It's fantastic. Can't wait until it's out.

Things that should be brought over from TES

One new feature of Oblivion is that armor can comprise one or more "slots". So you can have a "suit of armor" that you equip all at once, or separate helmet, greaves, cuirass, etc. that you equip individually -- or any combination. It all depends on how the art is set up.

    "Not Morrowind With Guns"

Yeah, it's not really anything new, one of the folks here said something similar in an interview.

    Fallout 3 .. 3d environment?

Hey, you leave Battlespire out of this! Anyway, Fallout 3 will be very, very different from Oblivion (or any other TES game). It won't be "Morrowind with guns". It won't even be "Oblivion with guns".

    Hitchhiker's Guide, coming in May

Awful movie. Good points: - The Guide entries - The Magrathea factory floor - ummm... Bad points: - Zaphod's supposed to be the coolest frood in the galaxy, not a complete idiot. - Malkovich's character ended up beingcompletely pointless -- they kind of dropped that plotline...

    Dear Bethesda.

I'd say mostly because we're not ready to talk about our game yet, and talking about the finer points of the earlier games might be misconstrued as providing information about Fallout 3, or at least as an opening to ask us questions about it. So, for now, we're quiet on the subject. But we do...

    Dear Bethesda.

Yeah, the forums are really for Elder Scrolls games, so you won't see very much discussion of Fallout there, even in Community Dicussion. Eventually we'll have a website & probably forums for Fallout, but I have no idea when that'll be.

    Oblivion Combat

It'll only hit one enemy. There's a "hit" frame within each attack animation, and when that frame is reached, the code checks to see if anyone's within a hit cone -- basically, if you're facing someone and they're within the weapon's reach, they're hit. If multiple actors are within that cone...

    Oblivion Combat

Well, considering Oblivion's being released on "next generation consoles", as we've put it, in addition to the PC, on those consoles there won't be keys but rather buttons. So (aside from my specific mention of a mouse, which of course is unlikely to be present on a console), when I say "button"...

    Oblivion Combat

Hmm, maybe a little... except for manual blocking, the controls are pretty much identical to Morrowind's -- it's just that now, selecting different attacks is actually worthwhile and has more meaning than it did in Morrowind. Like I mentioned in the article, it's a balance between player skill...
