Are games art? Well, Fallout 3 is getting there

If films are art, regardless of quality, I think video games qualify too. Their mean quality is lower than that of films in terms of writing, story and so on, but as someone else said, there are video games that outclass many films in this department. Though I'd suggest Braid is far more...

    Fallout 3: Quests

Disagree. Books, especially ones written in the first person, can be very compelling with an unreliable narrator - one who says X is happening but in fact it's Y (and the reader is tipped off to this by the way other characters react to the protagonist, the circumstances he finds himself in, and...

    Fallout 3: Quests

Fallout 3 may have problems but Tenpenny Tower is a quest that pretty much stands above most other quests offered in other RPGs these days. Especially some of the consequences. yes, the karma system is stupid and should have been scrapped, but TT is a fine sidequest IMO.

    NMA: Fallout 3 review

I agree with 90 % of this review - he's pretty much has got it right, but I'm finding VATS OK. The thing I dislike is that it's rare to select anything other than a headshot - in Fallout there were other targets (eyes, groin) that could have equally useful results. Anyway, great review.

    NMA: Capital Wasteland: Revelation review

Actually - avoiding spoilers - I don't think you lose karma for taking out the murderer. If you kill the others who turn hostile you do, though.

    NMA: Capital Wasteland: Revelation review

Agree, the longterm consequence there made me sit up and say, 'that's pretty impressive'. It stood out. I hope Bethsoft are able to build on these moments. A genuine touch of greatness.

    NMA: Capital Wasteland: Revelation review

Good review and probably the best way for a hardcore FO fan to review it. I'm pretty far in the game now and I imagine I'll finish it, but I agree that the FO name is unnecessary. It's unfortunate that if we want a FO sequel that remains more consistent with the originals it's going to have to...

Fallout 3 moves 4.7 million copies

In your unjustified opinion. In my (unjustified) opinion, I think Bethsoft did a pretty good job. I get Fallout vibes from the game. I'm enjoying it and am surprised it retains so many 'niche' elements such as the skill checks and so on, considering it's also a blockbuster.

Fallout 3 moves 4.7 million copies

Nice job, Bethsoft. I think it's deserved. It's certainly strange to see a game titled Fallout 3 do so well. If Troika had developed it and had the same budget to spend on PR, would it have been as successful? Or are people buying on the basis that it's the next game from the people who made...

    Fallout 3 tidbits

I'm sure I read you saying somewhere that you wouldn't be playing the game, BN. Change of heart? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Thoughts on FO3 (Spoilers)(32hours played so far)(LONG POST)

I kind of agree. Just picking up on the variety of characters point: I do agree that there is a nice variety and plenty of people to feel sympathetic towards. I've been thinking on and off all day about the (minor spoilers) Goth girl in Big Town who only comes out at night, writes emo poetry...

NMA article: My Fallout 3 adventures!

I'm really enjoying the game. It is bleaker than the originals, I'm realising - all those empty houses with little stories inside (SPOILERS: like the[spoiler:29ea8a1c8f] two skeletons in each other arms on a bed in one house[/spoiler:29ea8a1c8f], which I actually found quite touching). But Vince...

    Fallout 3 reviews round-up #11

I'd never played a Metroid game before Prime, so might be citing the example from ignorance. However the move to 3D doesn't harm the setting, IMO, and VATs is nowhere near as bad as some had predicted. The called shots thing is still there and works well; I don't actually miss the TB combat as I...

    Fallout 3 reviews round-up #11

Game is miles better than Oblivion. It feels like a union between ES and Fallout. Works well at times, other times (but not as often as you might think), it doesn't. Dialogue's serviceable so far. Certainly more Fallout than ES - personalities are evident. Evidence of genuine C&C, and I...

    Personal View on Fo3

Personal experience so far: Vault 101 was well done and enjoyable. Felt 'Fallout'. Megaton as a whole was disappointing. Not much to do, boring characters, dialogue that sometimejust didn't make sense (how come I'm talking to the Sheriff about the bomb that my PC never knew existed?)...

    Fallout 3 out in Europe

Got it, liking it so far. Feels kind of like Fallout. A few dialogue tics in Megaton, but its certainly playable and enjoyable. However, haven't got very far yet.

Fallout 3 reviews: OXM UK, Level, Score, GMC, PC Gamer

For games other than Fallout I generally find a reasonable opinion after reading a couple of reviews from sites like Gamespot, Eurogamer, etc. I know there's a lot of bias lurking under the surface - reasonable or unreasonable - which is why I don't take just one site's opinion as gospel. I...

    Polish Click! review

How long is FO1/2's main quest when compared to the other stuff you can do in the game? I guess maybe the difference is, in FO2 for instance, you need to spend time doing other stuff to get your level up to survive the endgame. In Beth's FO3, you can rush to the end and survive at low level...

    CanardPC's almost-review

Don't get me wrong - I'm sure there are some valid points in there that deserve to be explored. The way Bethsoft deals with journalists - that's news to me. But then, maybe that's standard for the industry? I don't know. I'm sure we all know how swamped gaming journalism is with biases and...

    CanardPC's almost-review

I'm afraid this 'negative means it's honest!' attitude doesn't work for me. Especially considering none of you have played FO3 yourselves. I felt that this guy kind of set out to hate it from the outset, with his rant about the conditions under which he experienced the game. I don't feel I...
