General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Call of Duty: World at War PC beta. I'll probably try out Fallout 3 once it's available to borrow.

Dead Space : about creating an atmosphere

If you can fix the mouse control, it'd be a lot better. I've already returned the game, unfortunately.

So, how many of you hate Fallout 3 without playing it?

I guess that's because it's not an FPS. I enjoyed Mass Effect quite a bit, though in hindsight it doesn't seem all that good anymore for various reasons. Some of their design decisions were simply... awful. But since most of the flaws were not directly related to the combat system, I think...

Dead Space : about creating an atmosphere

It is that bad. The controls are the worst I have ever experienced. The mouse aiming is slippery and erratic, the keyboard movement is unresponsive. The inventory is mapped to your arrow keys and forces you to take your hand off the mouse. It's not totally unplayable, but it certainly is...

Bethesda wants Fallout 3 trailers off the web

My mistake, it looks like he did talk about them. Still, from what I've seen of the game and the depth of Bethesda's previous games I'd certainly be wary of a near perfect review from a mainstream gaming site.

Bethesda wants Fallout 3 trailers off the web

The reviewer just happened to omit any mention of the voice acting or animation. How clever.

    Deus Ex 3 info

I'm sure this won't happen unless something big hits the world and sends us back to day one.

Dead Space : about creating an atmosphere

I just got a refund for the PC version. The controls are so bad, they lag so you can expect a half second response time when moving or correcting your aim. Also you can't really strafe properly while moving forwards, and manipulating inventory items is cumbersome and will get you killed...

    Fallout 3 hits Steam

It looks like they've removed the text descriptions as well. Damn.

$300-400 computer upgrades, or *gasp* a console?

For me Vista runs great and looks great - RAM is cheap enough not to be a limitation for even the slimmest budgets nowadays. With SP1 and updated drivers, performance in games is equal to or better than XP anyway.

    Deus Ex 3 info

Problem is Bioshock 2, Bioshock 3 and Bioshock movie are planned... with no mention of a System Shock sequel. A dumbed down spiritual successor can derail a series as much as a dumbed down sequel, if it's well recieved enough (and certainly Bioshock had a lot more market success than the System...

    Far Cry 2

It take two hits with the stealth animation, the first one sends them sprawling and the second impales them on the ground. I haven't been able to do stealth very well at all, either with the machete or silenced weapons, even when making no noise. It's very easy to use and the interface is...

To what extent FO3 could be modded?

Yeah, it could. On second thoughts it's not a particularly good idea considering the total lack of intelligence shown by the AI.

    Oblivion mechanics?

Glitching is pointless. Modifying your stats with the console has the exact same result and isn't more immersion breaking or abusive. And you don't have to wait 6 hours. Pretty much. Not quite, some players do not want to abuse flaws in the game mechanics for the sole purpose of gaining an...

To what extent FO3 could be modded?

If anything NPCs should be able to be made killable even without a CS. In Oblivion you could do that by modifying a command line in an .ini file.

Fallout 3 Review: Official Xbox Magazine

I disagree. Fallout 3 will be an enjoyable game if you are a fan of Oblivion. Not all of us fit into that demographic. Ah, that's a brilliant idea. Now we'll all head down to the store to buy a product just so we can determine whether it was worth buying. And kikomiko gets his nice, shiny...

No, but inverted exp values almost seems too monumental a screwup, even for Bethesda. Almost...

Bethesda tires of spending money to support pirates

The material advantages of piracy are obvious and I'm not going to argue them. I don't pirate out of principle; that and I'm well off enough to afford buying a few games. Sure, you can try to justify piracy by saying that games nowadays are devoid of good content. But no matter what happens...

    Backroom I.T. reviews Fallout 3

Totally agree on both points. Spore is one the most overhyped cash grabs I've ever played, it goes right up there with Oblivion. I don't find anything strange about that. Maybe it's popular across the US baseball fanatic demographic, but come on; as a gamer aren't you getting a sudden...
