SCORPIONS AND LIZARDS. IN WASHINGTON DC.

:falloutonline: Fallout 3's lore isn't even compatible with Fallout 3, mef.

    Fallout 76: E3 Trailer

Yeah, I completely agree with that. My only point is that in the state Fallout was shipped, the pragmatic approach to better polishing what was already there would have been removing those skills for a more focused overall experience. Obviously adding content is always preferred but it's not the...

    Fallout 76: E3 Trailer

I truly think everybody here is just so in love with the idea of certain skills that they can't judge the execution fairly. Let me reiterate: there is nothing inherently wrong with wanting to have features like traps or gambling in Fallout. That's not my criticism. Where the game fails is the...

    Fallout 76: E3 Trailer

I'm sure at least one person here is going to get the game anyway, since it will contain new official Fallout 'canon' to learn. God knows how big everyone is on lore here... We should find somebody who's already planning to purchase Fallout 76 and send them in as an advance scout. That way we...

So what do you think the Vault Boy's voice is?

Looks like he's contracted a nasty case of marketing department syndrome.

    Fallout 76: E3 Trailer

I imagine the next big information dump is going to come with the release of the Fallout 76 beta, which should be coming fairly soon. If Bethesda is going to make any meaningful gameplay tweaks after a public test, they're going to want at least a few months between it and the November launch date.

So what do you think the Vault Boy's voice is?

It hurts to say this, but to me Vault Boy has become the official mascot of "I'm a hardcore Fallout fan. I have over 6000 hours combined in Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. Look at all this sick merch I ordered off the Bethesda website." And to think he used to be somewhat of a counterculture symbol...

    Fallout 76: E3 Trailer

I seriously don't understand why you insist that Perks don't make characters more specialized. Up until this point in my life I would never have guessed a human on this earth could even disagree with such an idea. So I get that you think they're "cheats" (despite the fact that they are...

Am I the only one who views Perks as things that give you new abilities and gameplay mechanics to play with? There's the one in New Vegas that lets you see enemy statistics which is awesome. How about Perks that give you unique dialogue options for women, men, and children? Or unlock crafting...

Alright, in that case you are officially exempt from my wrath, Risewild. I also understand your desire to add more skills too, now that I see you look at things from a tabletop standpoint. Sky's the fucking limit with those systems. Everything just depends on how cool your DM is at that point.

    Fallout 76: E3 Trailer

It's called being a developer. Just because you can have fun with the system as it currently exists doesn't mean it couldn't be more enjoyable. Ok, I guess those are somehow different things in your world. I'll let you in on a little industry secret though, in a single player game, a slight...

    Fallout 76: E3 Trailer

Sorry, didn't realize I had to be so specific. Let me rephrase what I said: "That's why when Brian Fargo asked Tim Cain to put something else in Fallout, he implemented Perks, Gizmo." Using a plasma rifle technically shifts the odds of combat in your favor. So does wearing power armor and...

    Fallout 76: E3 Trailer

That's why Perks exist in Fallout, Gizmo. For specialization. Attributes and skills need to remain fairly general or else the game would get unsustainably complex in a hurry. That's a viable way to solve this issue. What you've basically done here is make player choice interesting again by...

    Fallout 76: E3 Trailer

You are obviously not thinking outside the box here. Adjust the scaling of skills a bit, and you would pretty much never see any two characters with the same combination of statistics. The difference between someone who could repair a leg and repair a generator could be tenfold. This is all of...

    Fallout 76: E3 Trailer

A game with three skills can be just as nuanced as one with eight, Gizmo. You are confusing mechanical complexity with mechanical depth here. If every encounter utilized these "Fix, Break, and Talk" skills to their fullest creative potential, you could still easily have players making the same...

    Fallout 76: E3 Trailer

Its inclusion would be absolutely fine if traps were a core component of the game. Unfortunately, the way Fallout's world was designed, you encounter things like dialogue and combat far more often than rigged safes. In other words, there is a clear disconnect between the character building...

    Fallout 76: E3 Trailer

That would be one way to solve the problem, if you wanted to keep the skill in the system. The alternative would just be to remove it entirely. Either way would work just as well, although your solution would likely lead to a more complex game. At that point it's a matter of preference, though.

    Fallout 76: E3 Trailer

@Gizmojunk @mef @The Dutch Ghost Ultimately, it's irrelevant how specific the skills offered in an RPG actually are. A phenomenal game can include four of them and an awful game could have hundreds. What it comes down to is how well each individual action is implemented into the game world. A...
