    Fallout 3 reviews round-up #6

From all of these that I've scanned, it seems like VATS is: * Frustratingly repetitive * An unnecessary time waster * Subject to poor environmental collision detection * Not at all necessary due to low difficulty * Replays poor ragdoll physics ...and combat makes up the vast majority...

    Eurogamer Fallout retrospective

Also, let's not forget that Fallout Tactics had more pre-orders at the Interplay store than Baldur's Gate 2. A proper and timely Fallout 3 back in the day would have been a phenomenal performer if Herve had given it a chance.

Fallout 3 and Game Violence's Taboo

If you hung onto Spark through the whole game it bloody well did. ;)

Fallout 3 guide creation #6: Da Warudo

In retrospect, Morrowind had a lot of character. There was no gameplay to speak of, but at least they made the world interesting to explore. Oblivion on the other hand had pretty much nothing going for it.

Over 2000 Midnight Store Openings for Fallout 3

I don't get how Bethesda are somehow better than EA. Sure, they may churn out the same racing/golf/soccer/NFL game year after year, but at least they're just churning out Oblivion every couple of years.

Fallout 3 guide creation #5: Quests

I always wondered what you'd put in a strategy guide for a game that is already its own walkthrough. Now I know. If I were Prima, I'd release strategy guides on how not to buy Bethesda/Gas Powered Games. Seems like an investment for the future.

Fallout 3 reviews: OXM UK, Level, Score, GMC, PC Gamer

It's not about bribes and corruption, it's about the way the industry works and its ethics. The gaming media makes its money with ad revenue, which is predominantly bought by games publishers. The same publishers whose products are being reviewed. Criticise too harshly and the ad bucks dry up...

    GameBanshee interviews Gavin Carter

Wow, I can't believe they didn't go with factions - does that mean the only "reputation" tracking variable is karma? That's so.... primitive. Even Daggerfall was leaps and bounds ahead. :? Edit: Ahahahahahahahahahaha! Oblivion didn't have unique geometry for gender? And I thought some of...

Fallout 3 guide creation #3: Training Chapter Overview

I still don't see how anyone can say how awesome this game looks. Most of the environments look pretty good, but this one looks washed up, pixelated with barely more geometry than Morrowind. Don't even get me started on the characters.

    Backroom I.T. reviews Fallout 3

Exactly right, there's absolutely no reason why Fallout 3 couldn't have been produced on a modest budget and sold to the few hundred thousand people guaranteed to buy it. Not everything has to be a blockbuster, and many publishers would do well to learn this.

PC Action Germany reviews Fallout 3

That to me reads as "We have no idea how to critically analyse a game, so we waffle around a subjective opinion." Now regardless of what many gamers might believe, it is possible to objectively review a game just as it's possible to objectively analyse a movie. A movie critic will analyse a...

    Emil comments on V.A.T.S.

Well, in your "typical" RPG, there's a synergy between role playing and gaming. You can take an action, but the game holds you accountable for the success of that action. You're limited by the character you've defined and developed, and your character strengths become a necessity. The...

    Emil comments on V.A.T.S.

At the end of the day, the Bethesda way hasn't got much to do with actually gaming, and VATS is just the lastest iteration. Oblivion, Morrowind and even Daggerfall are more or less devoid of core gameplay. What they have instead are frictionless activities that allow the player to act in a way...

Fallout 3 launch party Oct 18th

Does this mean tha now, finally, the media will stop treating these pricks like some kind of indie wunderkind struggling to stay afloat in a world filled with big bad corporate entities like EA and Activision? EA might just make the same games over and over again, but at least they're...

    Fallout 3 Demo on Monday

Why am I not surprised the the first gameplay footage of Fallout 3 is part of a big turd sandwich of advertising revenue rather than being freely downloadable?

    Bethesda's Fan Interview #2

Am I the only one who wonders about the message that invincible kids delivers? If you really buy into the "video games = behavioural conditioning" side of things, then surely this in it itself is negative, because you're inculcating the concept that children cannot be harmed by malice or...

Australian classification verdict: It's all junk!

This is so awesome. As long as it doesn't propagate that whole pre-teen-hype-because-something-was-once-banned effect when they do release an acceptable version.

    IGN AU interviews Pete Hines

Who needs player to fundamentally break your game when the developer can do it in advance?

    IGN AU interviews Pete Hines

Having read through that, my first thought was "obfuscation". It seems like Pete deliberately avoids saying anything informative in keeping with their policy of preemptive damage control. But then the truth dawned. The guy isn't hiding facts, they just flat out don't have them. I've heard...
