In my opinion Fallout 3 is truest to Fallout 1.

As fan whose favorite game is the first Fallout, I couldn't disagree more that fans of the first game would like Fallout 3 better. One of the biggest strengths of Fallout is how logically and cohesively the game world, story, characters and quest fit together. By creating such a well put...

Dragon Age II: now more like Mass Effect 2

Just got around to playing this and wasn't expecting much given some of the negativity, but overall I was pleasantly surprised and happy enough with the game. For as much talk as there was about the combat being dumbed down, I don't really see it, at least on the higher difficulty levels...

Why I Abandoned New Vegas For Renaissance Rome

I think one problem people have when playing New Vegas is that they think if they are given a task, they have to do it. Every quest in the game is optional, so if someone asks you do something mundane, you can just ignore them and move on your way. If you stick only to the quests related to...

    Your Favourite Fallout game?

Fallout (10, one of the best games ever made) > New Vegas (9.5, too many bugs and combat is too easy, otherwise a great game) > Fallout 2 (9.0, too much silly pop culture stuff) > Fallout 3 (7.0, fun enough to run around, explore and kill stuff if you turn off brain) > Fallout Tactics (6.5, an...

F:NV nominated for best writing and awards round-up

A lot of games with "good writing" have good writing in the context of pulp mass market genre writing, which is usually terrible writing when compared actual good writing. New Vegas is one of the few games that even attempts to have actual good writing and while it doesn't always succeed, it...

    Wacky credits

I think a plot of people equate writing with story and plot, but New Vegas doesn't really have a lot set main story or plot and is left more up to the player to determine. The strength of the writing in the game is the characters, factions, world, quests and small side stories that set up the...

    My Fallout: New Vegas review

It took a while for Fallout to build up its reputation. Some people were true believers since they played the demo before the game was released (loved that demo!), but it was pretty niche in appeal for quite a long time. It was probably one of the best selling +5 year old games several years...

How could've the Legion be less...terrible?

Wasn't one of the main reasons Caesars forbid healing chemicals due to scarcity and that he wanted troops to fight in a way that they would not be dependent on them? They do after all use things like healing powders or cave fungus that are renewable resources they can find for themselves...

    6INT>10INT

Comprehension perk doubles magazine bonuses (and increases gains from skill books), its pretty much the most universally powerful perk in the game.

    Question about the Megaton Bomb?

I think the real story of Fallout 3 is that everything to up your 10th birthday party of was true, but then Butch beat you senseless for being a sissy and put you into a coma and everything else was the delusional, incoherent, dream world of 10 year old boy. Everything makes more sense that...

    My Fallout: New Vegas review

I find silly to recommend Arcanum in this review, not because its old, but his emphasis on needing a good combat system compared to whats in New Vegas. Combat in Arcanum is an absolute train wreck, its something you put up with along with the severe bugginess and balance issues because the rest...

    My Fallout: New Vegas review

While maybe it should be the standard, but its definitely not, and I don't know know its every really was, there was a little golden age of rpg design from 1996-2001 or so, but that was awful long time time ago at this point, and a whole new generation of gamers have never touched a game like...

    My Fallout: New Vegas review

Generally this review and a lot of others I've seen for this game spend too much time focusing on what is wrong with the game or what they don't like about it, as opposed to what the game does well. This game has a lot of annoying design decisions and technical issues, but the core of the...

How could've the Legion be less...terrible?

I think the main things that would help would be a functional, safe and productive legion city away from the front lines, and more back story on how bad Arizona/New Mexico were before the rise of the Legion and what the Legion has done to improve the area than the small amount you get from Raul...

Things we learned from Fallout 3

324: When you kill someone by shooting them in the head, its typical that the bullet will cleanly decapitate them, leaving the head otherwise intact.

What's the logic behind AP usage?

My guess is that is based roughly of ease of handling the weapon. Pistols are generally lowest, big unwieldy weapons or weapons that need to extra carefully aimed tend to cost more. Rare weapons tend to have their costs reduced. Some of the values do seem a little arbitrary though.

    Question about the Megaton Bomb?

It is a matter of context, killing to survive or fighting in a war or even revenge is one thing, but wiping out a whole city for slight material gain, with no back story, just a few hours into the game, using the same method used wipe almost every living person on earth is a little extreme...

    Question about the Megaton Bomb?

I found it somewhat offensive at how lightly they took the decision to kill a bunch of innocent civilians with a nuclear weapon in a game series about the horrors of nuclear devastation. You're seriously supposed to think murdering an entire city (one of the only areas in the region even...

How in the hell can they say this game is Faction balanced?

Freeside is a tough area, but it was in the process of improving before the events in the game. The leaders of the community, King, Julie, the Garrets are all fairly young and all working hard to improve the area in their own ways and are having success. The area was unable to thrive until...

Do you think it's perfectly okay to dismiss Fallout 3...

Fallout and Falllout 2 are niche games designed for a fairly specific audience. Fallout 3 is a big budget mainstream game designed for broad appeal. New Vegas is balance of the two. I can understand why some people would prefer Fallout 3, they are typically people that love to explore...
