Interplay wants more money, Caen's statements unveiled

We'll see. Based on the contract, it doesn't seem that there's much of a chance of that happening. I suspect that Beth will sue IP into giving up the MMO for a settlement of some sort. I think IP is gearing up for that too. Then they get to launch a new MMO with some cash in their pockets.

New Vegas will be newsworthy tomorrow

You're just pissed because Briosafreak blew the lid off this story and scooped you!

More details from same Interplay vs Bethesda filings

Well, Bethesda owns the franchise, and IP needs to get approval from them. Furthermore, I believe IP specifically needed to meet criteria (including the funding requirement) in order to advertise a Fallout MMO. From Bethesda's perspective (I assume), they needed to show that they were fit and...

Interplay wants more money, Caen's statements unveiled

I think they are due 12% of the revenue with the current contract, and there's a pretty big difference between 100% and 12%. And although neither team has proven anything, there's a big difference between the money behind Zenimax and the money behind Masthead. It's probably smart to go after the...

Interplay wants more money, Caen's statements unveiled

I think it's pretty obvious that they'll be able to continue publishing their old games (as long as they don't sell all the rights before it's all over). They will likely lose the rights to the MMO, and they are well prepared for that.

Mark Morgan is not scoring Fallout: New Vegas

It's supposed to mean that orchestral music can fit in games and films that don't involve swords and shields, or at least, that a lot of people hold that belief. The Fallout soundtrack was obviously influenced by electronic music of the early-mid 90s. Regardless, the point is that the music...

Mark Morgan is not scoring Fallout: New Vegas

You'll find orchestral soundtracks in a lot of films and games that don't involve swords and shields. There's certainly nothing inherently medieval about that style. I remember that Mad Max was orchestral. Of course, Bethesda could have gone with Tina Turner instead... Yeah, but mid-90s...

Mark Morgan is not scoring Fallout: New Vegas

My guess is that they like rousing orchestral music in their games. That, and guys like Soule and Zur are more prolific than Morgan.

Mark Morgan is not scoring Fallout: New Vegas

Yeah, but a source can help me to determine whether I'll entertain a rumor or completely disregard it. I don't remember any source being given for the Gameinformer rumor, and I probably wouldn't have bothered to read it at all if it was cited as a random forum post from an anonymous source. Any...

Mark Morgan is not scoring Fallout: New Vegas

It would be nice if the rumor newsposts came with an actual source. That way, we could judge their veracity, or at least make a note of it when they turned out to be false. For example, where did that Gameinformer nonsense come from? Did someone just pull it off of Neogaf or something?

    Mark O'Green joins Interplay

New Vegas is definitely coming out (probably this year). V13 will probably come out also, but there's a good chance that it won't have "Fallout" in the title, which really isn't a big deal IMO.

The Book of Eli in cinemas now

Yeah, I don't see the big inherent problem with a story that addresses religion. I'm pretty much spiritually bankrupt, and I like a lot of stories that include religion or religious themes. But the movie doesn't look very interesting, so I won't go out of my way to watch it.

Bethesda v. Interplay: Now with more transcripts

I don't think intent is important. Although it would rarely happen, one could violate a trademark or patent by accident. When they finally get around to disputing the specifics of the contract, it will matter whether the marketing materials for the old games "use, refer to, trade upon...

    Bethesda v. Interplay: Transcripts

I think he is suggesting that they would need to have >20 people at their company if they were really in "full-scale" development of a 30 million dollar MMO. But I agree that there's no reason to even bring that up. It should be enough to point out that they didn't raise the cash and they aren't...

    Bethesda v. Interplay: Transcripts

I'm just saying that the exemption isn't in the contract. It's more of an assumption that I made when I first read it (and I assume other people did too), but it isn't stated AFAIK. That part of the contract really didn't seem to be written very well, which is part of the reason that Beth...

    Bethesda v. Interplay: Transcripts

I think that the suit regarding the original games is just an attempt to put pressure on IP, but you are looking at it the wrong way. In the contract, I don't think it matters whether they've used the marketing materials in the past. In this case, I believe that Bethesda is contending that IP...

New Vegas features in the Official XBox Magazine in February

Certainly, name recognition is part of the reason that they'd do it, which is why I brought up the Metroid Prime example. Obsidian has had one Xbox game (5 years ago) that received a somewhat disappointing critical response. For the 360 crowd, Bethesda is a pretty big name. It's probably the...

New Vegas features in the Official XBox Magazine in February

Yeah, it's not abnormal or even technically incorrect to refer to it as Bethesda's game (as long as they don't specifically reference BGS). It's like referring to Metroid Prime as Nintendo's game. That's why people don't bother with print media anymore. But it's soon to them.

    Rumor: Fallout: New Vegas features

For some reason, I find the part about vehicles to be doubtful, unless they are not really drivable in real time.

Fallout listed as most significant game of 1997.

Fallout doesn't really belong on that list, at least not in a year that included Diablo, Goldeneye, and GTA. Don't get me wrong, it's probably my favorite game of 1997, but wasn't that significant. I wish it was more significant. And there are some others that don't really fit, like ME or...
