Kickstarter: Could it throw publishers out of the loop?

That "Banner Saga" looks very cool and I've kicked in. I still stand by my original post that Kickstarter won't completely toss out big publishers it will sure allow indie gamer makers to get levels of funding that they probably couldn't of in the past.

Kickstarter: Could it throw publishers out of the loop?

I think that there is a difference between raising $2 million and raising $50 million that can't be bridged by Kickstarter.

    Building a PC

I should mention that we are in Canada so shipping is a consideration. That particular computer is out of stock on newegg.ca. Thanks for the lead though!

    Building a PC

Looking for some advice for my brother. He's a graphic designer and is trying to build himself a good PC for doing photoshop work, etc. He said that after doing some research he built a PC for about $1100 but that seemed expensive to me. I know you can build a decent gaming rig for about $800...

    Bioware Backlash

I wish Uncharted had a "skip combat" button. As for Bioware, I haven't really enjoyed one of their games in a long while (ME1 was decent) but the quality of their writing has gone down a lot.

    High prices for old games.

This. When I see old NES games on ebay for ridiculously high prices that I used to own (but no longer do) it makes me rage a bit. Same with my old Transformers from the 80s.

    Kingdoms of Amalur

I avoid games published by EA wherever possible so I'll pass on this.

Fallout 3 voted "38th best game ending of all time&quot

They left off my personal favourite. The ending of Pac-Man: Still brings tears to my eyes when I think of how great this ending is. The story is nicely wrapped up, heroes and villains each get their just deserts and there is a real sense of pathos for the player.

    Dear Esther

When I go to a movie my expectations are that of a one-way medium (the movie is shown to me). When I play a computer game it should be a two way medium (ie: it shows me stuff but I control stuff as well). This "game", based on what I've read in this thread, is like a movie. When it is...

Double Fine Adventure raises over half a million in a day

While Steam is pretty much another form of DRM, it still comes off as warm and cuddly DRM.

    Dear Esther

I think it looks really cool, but I'm waiting for a Steam sale to pick it up.

    Crusader Kings 2

I've been burned by Paradox enough times to know that you don't buy their games until well after the first patches have come out.

EA Origin - my games are gone

This is my biggest fear when thinking about the future of gaming being all digital and whatnot. I like having a physical copy of a game so that when the zombie apocalypse wipes out the internets I can still play Half Life and Fallout 2.

Chris Avellone thinking about Kickstarter and Isometric RPGs

Hopefully this'll work out. I'm tired of twitch based shooter RPG's in the first person. Dammit, I'm old, cranky and want turn based combat back.

Double Fine Adventure raises over half a million in a day

I'm stoked about this. Gave some $$ as well (can't wait to get my signed poster). I like the idea of giving the middle finger to large publishers and making games independently of them. Tim Schafer is the man and Grim Fandango is still probably my favourite game of all time (and the...

    Your GOTY 2011 (poll added)

Portal 2 was easily the best game I played last year. Good graphics, great writing, great voice acting, cool moments and a funny ending. Throw some awesome co-op on top of that and you have a very memorable gaming experience.

Actual, turn-based strategy X-Com sequel in the works

The one screenshot I saw looked like the humans were wearing blue suits leading me to think it was set in the 50s.

Actual, turn-based strategy X-Com sequel in the works

Anybody who posts "I never played X-com" should be required by law to buy it and play it. I'm excited about this because a) Firaxis makes awesome games and b) X-Com should always and forever be a turn based isometric style game (except for the globe bits). It looks like they are setting it...
