How should an RPG be? Freeroam for ever like Fallout 3?

Games can be both free and linear. Mass Effect is a recent one that comes to mind. The plot is relatively linear, although you can progress through different parts in any order you want to a point. Once you get to a point you are actually free to take your starship to (almost) anywhere in...

Fallout 3 Collectors Edition / Survival Edition

Well I think the whole "collectors edition junk" is pretty silly. If you ever saw spaceballs they have lunchboxes as merchandise referenced in their movie. I bought it because I wanted the bobblehead ;)

Fallout 3 Collectors Edition / Survival Edition

Well I bought the Collectors Edition. I am wondering though: Anyone else have in the back of their mind an image of Yogurt (Mel Brooks) from Spaceballs talking about "Merchendizing!" when they saw the Fallout 3 lunchbox? Did anyone have this image SCREAM AT THEIR SOUL when they saw the...

    10 best games.

My list, in no particular order: Fallout 1 & 2 The Legend of Zelda Ultima Underworld 1 & 2 Baldur's Gate Daggerfall Final Fantasy VI (3 American) Starcraft Diablo 1 & 2 Mass Effect (What? I enjoyed it! I can have a "Hollywood Blockbuster" on here) Last, but certainly not least...

Questions about FEV in Fallout 3

Which is why we conclude that Science! did it.

Fallout 3, Bioshock: Videogames or not?

Crysis is more of a technology showcase in my mind than anything else. The actual game is a well executed tactical shooter. Nothing terribly groundbreaking in terms of gameplay, but the quality is there. That being said, I am one who believes that the FPS genre is still a "valid video game"...

Fallout 3, Bioshock: Videogames or not?

So far this thread made me realize one important point: The difficulty sliders in Fallout 3 need to be rethought. As-is they just ramp up enemy health and damage for a pretty annoying experience. IMO hard should be more that you still kill quick, but they kill quicker. 10 headshots with a...

    [Poll] KB&M or Controller?

I want to get a controller for added challenge. Then i might actually need to use VATS/Godmode. Sneak headshots with the unique plasma rifle turns almost anything into a pile of green goo.

    4GB of RAM

I wouldn't say Vista is awful. I would, however, say that the User Account Control is to Vista as the Paper Clip Helper was to Microsoft Office

So, anyone struggle through as a non-combat character?

This thread actually reminds me of one of my FO3 gripes. Many enemy types are strictly violent. In fallout 1 there always felt like a reason for someone to be violent. Perhaps its not about having every npc with options to be non-violent - a few though makes for immersion. Remember in...

Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir

Are they using limited install SecuROM or just disk checking? The DRM scheme EA uses on some of its games treats consumers like criminals :(

Most Overrated Games of This Gen?

I would have put Crysis on that list. Other than a novel way of stressing your hardware to the limits and some of the best graphics on the market, the game itself is kinda "meh". Sure, the "plausible future nano tech" stuff was neat, but the game, although pretty cool, was more hype imo. The...

Intelligent Deconstruction Review of Fallout 3

I think we can also expect that, once the CS is released, we will see a glut of mods that bring the Fallout back to Fallout 3. Remember, with a CS you can add NPCs, dialog, locations, modify stats and items - whatever you want. I would love to see someone do something that creates a large...

    4GB of RAM

The OS actually maps 4GB of address space The system, your video card, or any other device with onboard memory, eats into that. Typical computers will see 3.2GB. Because I have TWO video cards, for example, mine only sees 2.8GB+- If i SLI'ed 3 video cards at 512mb each I would only get...

    A genuine, worthy sequel

I think the TRUE test of Fallout 3 will be if anyone pays for the DLC. Its one thing to push a fuckton of copies that use an existing IP with a decent fanbase. Its another thing to actually KEEP them interested in your product and to get them to pay for additional content. I predict DLC...

    Will Fallout 3 be remembered?

More of an epic disappointment. It didn't fail - they sold more copies of FO3 than FO1 and 2 combined (anyone got the page with stats to back that up?). Well, it didn't fail commercially. It failed to deliver an epic first person RPG that immersed us in the world of fallout. But... at least...

Ahh Megaman. Back when games still took a certain level of skill to beat :D

    4GB of RAM

A few things: - 32 Bit OSes are limited to 2^32 locations in address space. Thats 4,294,967,296 or 4GB - Address space is used by everything from the system itself to Video Cards. As a result, you will never see all 4gb as usable. - Installing 4gb is good if you don't have a higher end...

Fallout 3, Bioshock: Videogames or not?

I think the studio that put out BioS absorbed the Looking Glass folks actually. That company is defunct. Looking Glass produced one of my favorite games EVER though. Ultima Underworld
