Tidbits on Unity Engine and Wasteland 2

Unity is a fantastic engine, it's always good to see "lesser known" engine tech (compared to Unreal, id, etc) get recognized by professional studios like this.

Wasteland 2 Kickstarter Drive ends, $3.04M raised

I was in a similar boat because of how Takedown was doing at the time. Regardless I'm really happy for those guys, glad I was wrong!

Interplay Games 50% off on GOG.com

I'm playing through Lionheart now, I like what I've played so far. I hear the game begins to drop off after you leave Barcelona but for $3 I'd definitely recommend it so far, especially the GOG version because of the extras.

Obsidian to Co-Develop Wasteland 2 if $2.1M is hit

Well, I'm sold! I really hope they meet the requirement, odds are looking good though.

    Ripten Wasteland 2 Interview

On the topic of publishers it would be interesting to get Fargo's thoughts on his time at Interplay where he was "the publisher" for various third parties. Does he feel he was too heavy handed, did he become what he now "hates", etc. I'm kind of surprised that no one has really touched on...

Fallout 1/2/Tactics on sale, and more tidbits

    It's the end of 2013 actually. http://news.mmosite.com/content/c/2012-01-10/fallout_mmo_develop_rights_revert_back_to_bethesda.shtml

Brian Fargo considers Kickstarter for Wasteland 2

Their second project could be that original IP XBLA game Feargus Urqhart talked about last year?

    Masthead MMO shutting down

That's a shame, I was really looking forward to playing it when it went free to play. For a good portion of last year I was under the impression that you couldn't play it outside of Europe since the publishing deal they had made it sound like it was exclusive to that continent until a publisher...

Bethesda gets FOOL rights, Interplay gets $2 million

I remember there was a discussion about servers a year or so ago that Chris was involved in but I'm not sure if they said anything about player count in that discussion.

Bethesda gets FOOL rights, Interplay gets $2 million

To be fair, we don't exactly know how the Fallout MMO would have been planned in regards to other players, it's possible the game could have been limited where each player sees only a set number of people, similar to Phantasy Star (technically it would still count as an MMO), and it's also...

Bethesda gets FOOL rights, Interplay gets $2 million

I can see how one could work up a figure of $20 million to value R&D but whether or not it would be enough to fulfill the contract obligations, I'm not sure. An unfortunate side effect of Masthead evidence being dismissed from the case, I guess we'll never know for sure.

Bethesda gets FOOL rights, Interplay gets $2 million

On the question of funding, I think we can agree that Interplay did have funding via investments in the company, whether or not they equate to $30 million is debatable of course. Unless these investments and deals (like the Masthead deal) are now void as a result of Interplay losing the brand...

Bethesda gets FOOL rights, Interplay gets $2 million

Given how Interplay ended up in the end, it's safe to assume Black Isle would have likely closed anyway along with the other Interplay/Titus studios, it's the unfortunate reality of a cash strapped company. Only Van Buren's engine was close to completion (about 90% IIRC) when it was canned so we...

Bethesda gets FOOL rights, Interplay gets $2 million

Going by what happens on Xbox Live Arcade when rights change hands, games are usually delisted until a new agreement can be worked out with the new rights holder. Those who bought the game can still redownload it though via their download history page. I assume something similar could happen...

Bethesda gets FOOL rights, Interplay gets $2 million

I wouldn't say they sold out, we don't really know the full details. What we can infer is the case was likely not going in their favor given the dismissed evidence heading into the trial so it's possible they really had no choice but to settle, wouldn't say the case was going in Bethesda's favor...

    FOOL settlement confirmed

Date is likely taken from year old documents or speculation, ghouls were technically confirmed and humans are really a given (there were also leaked shots from years back that showed the player as a human character),

Duck and Cover reports FOOL case has been settled

I don't think a purchase is likely since it would cost Bethesda quite a bit of money and I doubt Interplay really has much that they would want. It's possible that fees could be negotiated depending on what the two parties decide upon since they basically have to work out a deal on their own...

Bethesda vs Interplay continued, FOOL screenshot

They haven't declared Chapter 11 before, or any sort of bankruptcy for that matter (then parent company Titus did in 2005 however). I doubt the legal fees will be high enough for bankruptcy and if Interplay did have to pay fees I'm sure they can attempt to negotiate something (like a...
