I don't really disagree with you for the most part in that it does feel like more often than not NV plays it safe/straight, but I don't necessarily think that's the worst thing in the world. Some tropes have become tiresome and could probably stand to see less use, but many exist and are perpetuated because they're actually decent storytelling devices with real-world parallels (and thus relatability). Also, I wouldn't say the White Gloves are obviously cannibals (until you talk with Mortimer or Marjorie and they let that slip, anyway), but there is clearly something WRONG there, yes. And to be fair, it was only Benny who had designs on the chip - there didn't seem to be any indication Swank or any of the others had any idea what Benny was planning. Lastly, the Omerta/Legion connection is actually kind of strange when you think about it - Omertas like hookers and blow, Legion probably doesn't think highly of the first and definitely frowns on the second.
