Hey guys, I've wrote a fairly detailed review about why I don't think that Fallout 4 is a very good Fallout game/post-aopcalyptic RPG. It's on Steam: "steamcommunity com/id/rouce/recommended/377160" (URL without the dot due to the post getting denied for it :P )

I hope that it's informative for those who still haven't played it and that it helps to decide whether RPG is a buy criterium to you or not. What do you think, do you feel the same about this game or do you have another opinion?

Oh and greetings to the NMA community.

The example you gave of the quest is from an Obsidian game, not Bethesda. Fallout 3(Also made by Bethesda), was also a dumbing down of the earlier fallout games. The thing about Bethesda, is that they are kind of like that dumb kid in a lesson who really doesn't know shit about what they are studying, and slows down the whole general pace of the lesson, but you can't help feel a sense of "Aww, at least their trying"

IMHO, I think Obsidian is the best hope the Fallout series have. Not only do they have producers from Interplay, but also had proper consequences for actions in New Vegas. Also, they took a very dumbed down system made by Bethesda, and made it just as effective as the first two. They are in my eyes, a continuation of Interplay Fallout.

I don't really miss the karma system myself.

I don't like NPC's having eyes in the back of their heads knowing I did something when they simply should not know that I did it. The system to me was flawed and immersion breaking.

"Steal from Johnson Nash's house when he's not there and inside the Vikki & Vance Casino? That's some negative karma there, son!" No thanks.

I'd much rather a realistic reputation system where NPC's have to witness you do something bad in order for them and others to judge you of it.

@JO'Geran: I know that it's not from F3. But even F3 had different appraoches in the first quest, like getting the info about your farther from Moriarty. You could pay him caps, hack his terminal, steal the password and get on his terminal, work for him - or simply blowing up Megaton. Then the quest would update to "Continue the search for your farther".
@SaucyLad: If we're speaking about NPC's magically knowing what you did: It happened to me in F4. 2 times there was a daughter/father of someone which I killed confronting me that he've heared from someone what I did. I recognize that the Karma system was flawed, but nothing that couldn't be improved imo. :)

Yeah Fallout 4's guilty of NPC's having eyes in the back of their head too for story/quest stuff. Which should be fixed yeah. But I was in general just saying a reputation system where there had to be witnesses or something or another would be better than Big Brother Karma is watching. :)

Is it like the Oblivion guards? I remember I secretly broke into a house for that grave digger quest and after lockpicking the basement door while nobody was home I entered the cell, took a few steps...then one of the guards gave me a heart attack when they magically found me.

Huh, I thought that the telepsychic guards were limited to Daggerfall. I guess that some habits are really hard to kick.

It's basically like that, but in F4 it are always family members who have somewhere heared from someone that you, that guy from Vault 111, have killed his related. Lol.

Don't tell me about it. It's actually a secret conspiracy done by all the factions who provide the guards information on people they deem dangerous, such as you. This differs from informers and magical means.

I lol'd. I would like karma to exist but not be influenced by stealing. Why are you supposed to be evil if you're a thief? Maybe you are roleplaying Robin Hood :D

Piper disliking me for stealing shit in a game where historically I have stolen the whole universe is really starting to wear thin.

It's the post-apocalypse, if I want to steal a stimpak and a Nuka Cola Quantum you shouldn't be judging me!

Is there anything reminiscent of the Skyrim thugs that would come after you with a note from someone that magically knew you stole something off them despite no one seeing you do it and not failing the pickpocket attempt? What about the equivalent of killing a chicken and the whole town trying to kill you because of it?

Oh I hate that logic. I kill a chicken on accident and then Riverwood hates me.

I hate that logic too. I would say more than hates you if they want to run a blade through your gut.
